I'm excited to announce that as of this afternoon all articles and category pages on HubPages will be updated to the new design and will be fully responsive as well. Keep an eye out in the next few hours to see the changes. Please feel free to report any related bugs in this thread and let us know what you think! smile

I've just been looking at Letterpile/books.  When I scrolled down to the point where it says "Loading" and later scrolled back to the top, many of the articles were superimposed on others. This was using Chrome and Windows 10.

I looked at only one article and was appalled to see all of the spam ads that appeared throughout the entire text...for things totally unrelated to what I wrote...such as removing wrinkles, etc.  This issue has got to be addressed asap.  At the very least move that garbage out of the main text area and to the bottom.   It's my article about what to write in a sympathy card if you wish to take a look.  Loses all credibility when you do this...it's got to be a glitch!

      1. Christy Kirwan profile image92
Christy Kirwanposted 7 years agoin reply to this

There should be no ads whatsoever within the body of the text on desktop. There will be ads that appear between text capsules on mobile as part of the fully responsive layout. We do expect these ads to be more lucrative, and it isn't something we plan to change at this time.

          Christy:

I am talking about how the ads look on a desktop...not mobile.  They are huge!

Have you looked at any of the articles?  Did the team not make a big deal about spam and how much it harms readership and gives problems with Google?  Why in the world would you have three or more of the same ad appearing between capsules when you limit the number of ads for writers.

You guys were doing so well, and now you've messed up your entire concept, one that was working beautifully.

Please talk to the team about moving those ads to the sides or bottom of the articles at least.  It just looks awful and makes writers look like hucksters!

        2. TIMETRAVELER2 profile image86
TIMETRAVELER2posted 7 years agoin reply to this

So, what do you think a reader would be thinking when reading an article about what to say in a sympathy card while looking at repeat ads that talk about removing wrinkles that shows a photo of an elderly woman!  If I was a reader seeing that I would be disgusted.

          1. Christy Kirwan profile image92
Christy Kirwanposted 7 years agoin reply to this

Don't forget ads are tailored to each individual reader so that they're more likely to see ads about subjects they've searched for and products they've looked at recently as well as ads targeted to the demographic they belong to.

Found the same spam problem on my main site as well...three ads placed right in the middle of my text capsules that make the article look like garbage.  Please fix this asap!

      One more thing:

On my main site, I can "select a site" and choose Hub Pages.  I cannot do that on my second site, which makes knowing which hubs are available for submission tedious.  Can you fix this?

What Google likes is everything on the SAME PAGE to be on the SAME TOPIC - and that includes ALL related hubs and adverts. It's the same 'rule' for everybody if sites are to be effective.

Why are wholly UNRELATED HUBS appearing in the right hand column. What's even worse they're the first ones you see i.e. top two of five.

Please ask the engineers to amend the code so ALL HUBS listed as related are actually RELATED i.e. from the same category!

PS I'm not seeing this on every hub but enough for me to be concerned as to the impact.

    Hi Christy,

The new design looks nice.  I had a comment on my chicken prosciutto mozzarella baked recipe today and when I wanted to make my comment it did not show up.  So I did it twice...and nothing.  Many hours later I just now checked it and one of my comments is there but no image next to my name.  Thought you might wish to know about this.  It is under Delishably.

Thanks for all of your hard work.

      @ Peggy W.,
I agree with you. The new design is beyond nice. I have a similar problem that you or Christy may help me with on this space.
I was looking at one of my newest hubs a night ago and noticed that my hubs now
DO NOT have the "Other Hubs By This Author" at the side or bottom.
I could not find it although I looked for the longest.
Has it been moved and where?
      Or been deleted forever?

    Hi Christy,
The new design is a fabulous improvement overall and I like it. One thing that is amazing is that the logo stays on the page as the reader scrolls down through the article.

Something that I couldn't find was the "follow" button that used to be at the head of the comments stream. Is it somewhere new?

    Thanks for all the improvements.

      Hi Peg,

When you leave a comment on an article, you have the option to check the box that says "Follow this article's comments." It's still showing up for me, are you not seeing that option?

        Christy,
I sent you and Team HP an email stating that my Firebox browser will not allow me to log into my HP account.
I use this browser to place photos on my hubs. The only browser that I can use is IE9. So please get someone to see what is happening.
        Thanks!

      2. Glenn Stok profile image97
Glenn Stokposted 7 years agoin reply to this

Christy, I think Peg means the "unfollow" button. There is a bug, or inadvertent removal of code, with the new layout.

Once you leave a comment with the follow enabled, there is no longer an UNFOLLOW button.

I noticed that in the niche sites and now in the main site since the changeover to the new format. I was going to report this, but never got around to it.

I usually like to unfollow after I get a reply from an author, unless there's a need for followup discussions.

The only way I can unfollow now is to click the unfollow link that's provided in the notification emails.

The design changes on Network Sites have been in place for much longer and have not changed since they were updated, so it's very unlikely that recent changes in traffic have anything to do with the design.

Yes, we believe the traffic changes are a result of the new Google algorithm. Paul E. discusses it briefly in this post.

I like the new look a great deal.  Nice job!  I am having the same problem with spammy ads in the middle of the text.  Also, I noticed several article had page views that decreased in terms of the totals they were up to. In particular my article on writers block and motivation was up over a hundred page views and has dropped to 10.  Also this article was chosen for Hubpro but it was already edited a couple of days ago and changed.  The edits don't seem to be there anymore and I am getting the notifications again that it is going to be edited by Hubpro,  Hoping someone could tell me what's going on and figure a way for my page views to go back to what they were.  Thanks.
