Hello, Team!
I just had a "positively brilliant" idea!
It has long been said, and made known that Hub Pages is not particularly poetry friendly; that poems do better on poetry sites.
Well, now--since your new niche sites stand alone, and appear (to G) to be unrelated to HP itself, then, why not, instead of losing authors, give poets a niche site, where poetry can do better, because it can then be a poetry site "outside" of the HP domain...and rank up as such a site, itself.
Now, isn't that just the best idea to come down the pike in this decade?!
Many people in the past faced a similar problem, but a solution came from outside the HP community - www.creativeexiles.com
A site focused on poetry mainly, but also other forms of creative writing.
To be more correct, the solution came from inside the HubPages community - the original idea was from John Hansen
Did you manage to make progress on monetizing the site?
Do you think you'll lose members now that HubPages has effectively duplicated your idea?
to be even more correct, the inspiration was from John, but after that it was all outside of HP - writers on TCE have a great deal more expressive freedom than HP allows, no scoring system exists, and the site is populated with written content (there is a separate forum section, yes, but it's not a focal point of the site, nor is Q/A). There is also no newsfeed, no "friending" or "following" either
the site is not monetized, nor were any attempts made to do so - only one ad, no pop-ups, or diversions from content
I know the site is "outside HubPages", but all the founding members came from inside HubPages.
It's unfortunate you haven't found a way to monetize
This is related to a forum topic I just posted, LetterPile Organization Needed. I agree with your basic premise which seems to be the ability for visitors to find what they want on LetterPile. I won't go into detail here, but there might be a way to organize the existing site so people can find poetry at a quick glance rather than by accident.
They have almost done that already, by making LetterPile exclusively Creative Writing.
HubPages is a business - if they are going to go to all the expense of creating and maintaining a website, it needs to have a good level of return. Unfortunately, even dedicated poetry sites are not particularly profitable.
Right--I get it Marisa.
I posted that last night after being at a particularly frustrating meeting.
And I just this morning found out that yes, they have 'virtually' done that When I read my email this morning, I found that my most recently published post, (an old poem of mine from back in 1987), had been moved to "Letter Pile," and it is under a poetry sub-section.
I'm stoked!

This last year I improved my hubs and had 112 featured of 130 articles: Now suddenly they bust me down to only 30 featured hubs. I feel this contributes to a websites decline. I made a comment on a survey that I don't get any payout for this site and gave my opinion, and now...

There should be a quick and easy way for readers who aren't interested in writing to sign up and follow HubPages writers, topics, or niche sites without actually signing up for HubPages. I just had a reader say they really like PetHelpful and wanted to subscribe to the site. Unfortunately, the only...

Has anyone heard anything about the future of poetry and fiction in terms of niches? I am a bit concerned that all us poets will get lost in the shuffle somewhere

Hello Community, In conjunction with our Network Site improvements, we are migrating hubpages.com content to our new frontend platform. As we continue to roll out upgrades, we’ve introduced the notion of a subdomain: discover.hubpages.com. The new discover.hubpages.com will host all content that...

I couldn't find a search box on Owlcation. Is there no way of searching a niche site? As they grow larger, readers are going to want the ability to search niche sites for other articles of interest. And writers (like myself), who want to write about a topic for a niche site, could search to see...

One thing I wish HubPages would consider is finding a way to allow readers to sign up to get notifications when a writer publishes a new article without having to become writers themselves. In others words, people can join HubPages just to follow a writer or topic they like, but they are told they...
