Perhaps some of you sage hubbers can direct me. I have been on HP two months, and written mostly inspiration, from the heart kind of hubs. I do have a niche, however, and that is paper arts (cardmaking, scrapbooking, etc.). I would like to do a series of hubs on paper arts. Should I make a new category and write those hubs exclusively in there, using my same hub name, or should I get another hub name and write those types of hubs under that hub name? Is there an advantage, or disadvantage, (traffic-wise and monetary-wise) to either way of doing this? Thoughts please.
I like everything under one name. That way it's easy for your fans to follow you. But some folks like to create new "secret" names for their niches so other people don't steal their ideas. They seem to have one public persona that posts and then more private personas. I think this is a personal preference.
Why make it more difficult for your self? just write in your present user name and categorize them properly. You will still get your readership and hopefully clicks too. good luck
One of the reasons I was attracted to HubPages was that you can write about anything and everything and it will not affect your "searchability" in the engines (that's how I understand it, anyway). Some of the other hubbers here say that blogging can also be profitable, if you have a good enough niche. So, all I'm saying is, write them all under one name, and be known as an expert in cardmaking, etc. Or, you can go set up a different blog solely dedicated to that niche. But if you want to keep on writing here for HP (I hope you would), then I don't think there is a need to create another profile. Either way, good luck!
Thanks everyone so far. I'm hearing "keep my one account and do both types of hubs in one." That was my original thought, but I wondered if it would serve me better to have two, one for professional niche related hubs, and the other for my regular writing. The reason I am thinking about this is that my niche is very specific, and if my readers are not into paper crafts, will they get bored of my hubs and not want to read them?
Nelle - I see your point about it being easier for my fans to follow me.
Ralwus - True, I would probably get clicks as I write about papercrafting products.
Mommyfreelancer - I'm definitely not going anywhere...I am staying here and writing. I do have a website from my business which I am revamping, so I could add a blog to that to drive traffic to my hubs, if I do my crafting hubs here. Good point.
Lyn, the main thing to bear in mind is that your fans don't pay the bills. It's visitors from search engines who click on ads. They won't even notice your Hubs on other subjects because they'll come straight to the Hub they're looking for from Google.
You can make it easy for fans to navigate your niche related Hubs by
- putting them in a Group
- putting them in a category (which is a different thing)
- interlinking the niche-related Hubs
- writing a Capstone-style Hub, i.e. an index to all your niche Hubs
If you are running Adsense on your Hubs, scrapbooking should be a really good keyword to build around.
Looks to be decent paying.
Good luck!
I must agree with everyone else here, why create another account and take on the task of driving traffic to both? Instead you should be doing your keyword research to see how much more traffic you can drive to all your other hubs while teaching on the subjects that you know so much about. Just a little keyword research and search engine optimization and your new hubs could exponentially compound your account traffic.
Keep with your own name but group your articles. The best way to do this for traffic is to do some keyword research first, start with the main root keyword and word out from there - the longer terms (longtail keywords) will bring you more traffic initially, as you have more chance of getting on the front page of google for those terms and if you are selling from the page - or referring to a sales page, a long tail keyword is more likely to sell (for example, red shoes in size 8 would tell you the person is ready to buy as opposed to shoes or even red shoes - apologies, I dont have a shoe fettish but it was the first thing that came to mind!)
When you have you keyword list then select your articles and group them - linking them internally to one another by the hub title - which should also be keyword targeted.
So, Red Shoes being the main article would link down to Red shoes for sale which would link to different types of red shoes on the market etc.. the final article should then link back up to the main article.
Hope that wasn't too much of a ramble but drop by if you want me to explain - I can also recommend a good keyword tool if you need one.

I've read a lot about the importance of doing keyword research, but then you also get the impression that to really do that research properly can take a long time unless you get lucky early on or really know what you are doing. So I wonder, with some people pumping out huge amounts of hubs, are...

There are tons of hubs on keyword selection and the various tools one could use to make the process easier. But, like most things 'net - they are mostly copies of copies of copies or poorly strewn together theories by intermediate writer-marketers ..So I ask... what was truly masterful, what made...

Just gaging anyone else's earnings here. I just checked google adsense and I have earned 64 dollars in 18 months. I've only written 19 Hubs and most of them don't get any traffic. Any thoughts?
