My brother was recently diagnosed with Celiac and we found that Wegmans (a grocery store we have here in NY) is full of stuff. Such as cookies...also if your son likes potato chips he can have Lays original because they are also gluten free. If you have any other questions about it feel free to email me at any time i have become pretty keen on Celiac and food and i would be happy to help.

My sister is a coeliac, albeit an adult one.

She tends to carry a mix of stuff with her, partly for snacks, partly in case she gets stuck somewhere, as her food choices are limited.

She eats fruit quite a lot - including dried fruit, such as raisins, or bananas. She also eats rice cakes quite a bit, as you can get small quantities ready-sealed.

Thanks for the snack ideas.  Rice cakes are a good one and so is dried fruit!!

    Thanks again,

    Jill

I have celiac as well.  I take pre-packaged cheese strings with me, trail mix, rice cakes.  Also, do a google search for "Elena's Pantry" blog(it's not mine, I promise!).  She has really good recipes for gluten free foods including stuff to take along with you.  She does really gorgeous food pictures, too...

My kids haven't been diagnosed with celiac disease, but have food allergies, so I am all too familiar with finding different types of foods. Corn chips (tostito (R) and fritos (R))and potato chips are easy snacks to pack. Apple sauce & fruit cups are good to pack if your child is good with using a spoon. I find many types of gluten-free cookies and crackers at Whole Foods (R), a grocery store. A brand of cake, brownie, pancake, icing, and cookie mix that is gluten, egg, nut, and dairy free is Cherrybrook Kitchen (R); amazingly the food is good, a bit sweet, but good. I am lucky that my children like to snack on carrot sticks, bananas, strawberries, and other fruits or vegetables. The key is to have a variety so your child doesn't get burned out on the same foods. Good luck!

Has anyone heard of sprinkling cardomon on food for celiacs? I read that someone saw that done routinely in China for children with celiac disease and am wondering if that's a good idea or not. From what I've read, it acts as a stimulant and I don't see how that would help.
