Don't publish a hub you wrote late at night while half asleep! Wait until morning, reread it, correct what it needs and THEN publish.
Next is to be sure you copy your hub into notepad before and after you edit it. Otherwise you may lose part of what you've done. I ended up editing in two different windows and lost one of my major revisions.
Been there done that and it certaily is an experience, great tips!
I think the edited statement is more applicable. Day or night doesn't matter, it's the being half-asleep part that does.
Another should-be obvious tip: please spell-check; either paste it in Word if you don't have spell check in Hub, or use the spell check in Hub. It picks up most of the errors.
Very literate, well-read people can still make spelling errors and not be able to catch them by proofreading themselves. There's something about content that we're already familiar with that makes us blind to our own spelling errors.
Though we all overlook spelling errors as we understand no one's perfect, the fewer spelling errors, the easier the piece is to read.
Yeah, same. Jus have to remind us of this traumatic experience huh lol good tips too.
Haha, I sometimes write my hub in the notepad, but it always messes the format.
Actually, I am nightowl and write most of my hubs late at night...on the site. So far, I have been fortunate not to write something that horrible or grammatically challenged...but, I know it's possible.
Hell, I'll most probably slip up and do just what you said not to regardless.
pretty much the only time I can write is night. Its quite lol but good points as recently when I was making changes I forgot I had my one hub open in two pages just like you
Great tips must remember that, sorry you lost your work, that's so harsh!
Lol, I still remember the nightmare of losing significant content of one of my hubs due to a crash while writing. The funny thing was that this hub was on learning foreign languages. After I lost some paragraphs I was totally unable to form any meaningful sentences in English (which is a foreign language for me). I did not remember what I wrote just a few minutes before. It was so frustrating. I had to wait for quite a time until "things in my brain" settled down ...
Now I always write the hub offline and just copy it over into the capsules.
Also, don't write one right after you wake up.
I did that this morning, misspelled the title AND the URL, had to delete it and was pissed at myself for a good hour!
Do you know I still haven't been back to look at my hub? I wrote it last night, once I published it realized it was open and edited in a different page as well but thought it was the second part so i pushed publish on that too. Then I saw that I was missing an entire section and it no longer was coherent! Add that to the fact that I was only opening my eyes occasionally...LOL!
I'm scared to look.
Even though i thought i was just joking about not looking, i notice i STILL haven't, as a matter of fact i think i'm going outside for a smoke...
I understand that some people do way better writing at night when everyone else is sleeping and leaving you alone, still whenever you're half asleep, day or night, first thing in the morning, NOT a good idea.
About notepad, I thought that was supposed to keep from inserting all the odd formatting - that's what was suggested in the other threads. Even then there could be a problem if you save a copy in notepad and then make changes directly into the box. Oh, whatever, you just have to be awake and thinking!
Yes, it's happened to me too that I was editing 2 windows at the same time and couldn't work out which one I should puplish. Now I definitely write off-line, even make notes about Keywords I might want to use as I go along, look for illustrations and videos - all long before copying and pasting it all into the real thing. And then there is still plenty to polish up once it's up there.
I clicked a link by accident a lost a hub I done the other night too, I had to rewrite the entire thing!

"one should always aim at being interesting rather than exact" -VOLTAIREYes, i know that checking your spelling and grammer make for a better hub score, but is anyone else sick of other hubbers who you arent familiar with commenting on your page that you misspelled something? Lets chat...

Do hubs with spelling errors make you think less of a hub?Is anyone else distracted by a hub that has decent content but several spelling errors or grammatical errors?

I just spent a lot of time on this hub; I did my research, cited my sources as usual, and published it yesterday with a rating of 70. However, it no longer says it is pending and it is not featured. I was wondering if someone can look it over, and possibly tell me why?...

I've read in several places on the forums that I don't need to worry about my HP author rating because it fluctuates all the time, but mine just seems to be dropping. I'm now at 5. I'm unsure why this is all of my hubs seem to be gradually going up rating-wise. Halp!I'm also totally lost when it...

If I edit a hub is it re rated? If I write a good Hub, hub officals read it and rate it, right? What if I get a 75, but later decide I can do even better, so I edit it and revise it. Do hub officals re read it and re rate it?
