I'm looking for stories related to females who lost their mothers due to death at a early age.  If you have a story, please share how the death affected you and how you coped. I'm doing this for a dear friend of mine's daughter (age 9) who just recently lost her mother in a tragic car accident earlier this week.  Your stories will help her heal.  Thank you

I don't have a story to offer, because this has not happened to me. However, I admire your putting this question out here. I think this community will will bring many stories and much support. Your friend's daughter has a wonderful friend in you. You and your friend's daughter share a tremendous loss. I am sorry for that...these little words don't even begin to express the feelings I have for you and yours.

My father died when I was 10. I was lucky my mother lived a long time. I will scout the forums and hang on to this thread so I can find it again.

I'm so sorry to hear of her loss, that's so young to lose a parent.  I would most definately reccomend counseling.  She's at a very vulnerable age...one that will make it difficult for her to express her emotions.  This would allow someone who isn't close to the situation to help her find outlets for her feelings.  Allow her to express herself if/when she opens up, answer her questions as honestly as you can, kids are a lot smarter than we give them credit for and sensing that she's not getting straight answers may make her close herself off.  Be patient as she begins to feel the loss, there will be a wide range of emotions, allow her to express them.  Most of all, be there for her, she will need that more than anything.

These are good words and good advice.  At the same time, take care of yourself, too.  You have suffered a great loss. It will be hard for you to encourage this beautiful child to express her feelings, because in many ways her feelings will be yours.

If I could, I'd make you chicken soup, wrap a blanket around you, and let your tears come to me.  The person who would do this for you is in your life, this person will sustain you, and all you need do is ask.

      Many hugs coming your way.
