Agree in principle - except that I think they appeal to representations of love not to the real thing. Plato had something to say about rhetoric and most love poetry is almost pure rhetoric I think? Translated to modern language - he had Socrates argue with Ion about how rhetoric is by nature - bullshit.
My poem of love dedicated to all those who played me and blew me off for no reason with no explanation:
