Have yall ever noticed that when you elect an offical to office they make promises to change washington and that they are for the people. Then once they are elected they seem to have toothaches on the days they are supposed to vote on critical matters.
Once elected they can be easily purchased. That's how it works. That's why the people really have no vote.
This is the reason why we should do the voting on matters instead of hireing someone to do it for us. I hope you agree, if so share it with someone.
The power of the law makers and all of Washington, from the Supreme court to the President belongs to the people of America. If there is a law or a change in the law it should be put before the people of the United States. If there is an issue brought before the supreme court that effects the rights of all people then america should vote yes or no to the issue at hand. It does not take a person with a law degree to judge whether something is right or wrong. Laws should be based on ones moral convictions.
This is the reason why we should do the voting on matters instead of hireing someone to do it for us. I hope you agree, if so share it with someone.
This is true. And it transcends party lines.
Washington is so foreign to many of us. We see it on TV, it play out in the News, and so on. But why do we let it rule over our lives? This is not Democracy. Democracy can only take place locally, with visible effects on our immediate communities.
I feel over time people of this country have been duped into believing what people say on TV. Television is a powerful tool that was constructed, and through it people may participate in a passive way, a participation which allows the mind to become passive and absorbent, rather then critical and reasonable.
Why do I, for example, in small-town Wisconsin, have to submit myself to the foreign entity that is the Federal government, when they in reality have nothing to do with my life? Why do only two choices for President have to prevail? I don't really know these people! They are just faces who put on stories to rally support for their election into power.
What the poster initially stated is true. Most any REPUBLICAN OR DEMOCRATIC President have sold out the people in one way or another. They receive campaign funding from especially the largest donors, which are rich people, and from that gift must give back in order to continue to receive campaign funding, thus supporting the lifestyle and power that comes with modern political office. And it is those with the largeset sums of money (power) that can "donate" to political campaigns that have the most psychological power of some of the chunks of opinions spread amongst those WHO DO choose to pick a party line to adhere to as their bible. It is my belief that in most cases, an elected politician who received heavy campaign funding from, say, a Pharmaceutical company, has a duty to preserve the profits of that Pharmaceutical company if he/she wishes to continue holding the minds and votes for future elections. In order for the politician to support their lifestyle, the politician must support those who fund their campaign, which is a biased republic.
"Voting" is an oversimplistic form of Democracy. Picking a side is divison, conflict, illusion, and confusion.
And we the people allow it to happen, consciously or unconsciously. I, WE...are the creators of our culture and society, of our own reality.
How many judges set on the supreme court? There are 9. How many U.S. citizen are there? The 2000 census said there are 281,421,906 living here. Now divide that number by 9 = 31269100.66 people per judge. Now does that number seem fair. Now you take some important issue like abortion why do we allow 9 people to make a decision in favor of a small percentage of people the majority of the people in the U.S disagrees with the decision.
If this is true why do we allow this to take place.
People would rather turn this country upside down over taxes while the government steadily takes away our rights and then gives more rights to others.
How can we pull together to be one voice and really bring change to this country at one time we were the light of the world I believe we can once again be that light.
I posted a lengthy comment here, then realized I'd written a hub--so moved the content.
However, in summary, my thought is that our Congress-folk will act responsibly as soon as we figure out how to hold them accountable on a moment-to-moment basis...but not before.
I agree, great hub, and you're right on, don't change the system, fix it.
Thanks, PB. First time I ever got a cool comment on a hub before I published the hub!

Politics in itself is good. It was basically created to give meaningful directions to an otherwise chaotic and multi-dimensional problems of our society. The politicians are the ones that make it look trashy and confusing to a majority of the people. Too much scandals/corruptions and too much...

Presidential candidate Mitt Romney said last week that Obama has a secret agenda for his second term. I'm wondering what that is. Romney did not say. Or is this the old psychological trick of projecting your fault on the other guy. Is it Mitt who has the secret agenda? I surely don't know. Perhaps,...

Do you contend that politics is a game and that the average politician whether Republican orDemocrat cares nothing at all about his/her constituents but only his/her self-aggrandizement, celebrity, and next career move?

Has anyone else noticed this?President Trump is closer to and has more praise for Vladimir Putin, Kim Jong-Un, Rodrigo Duterte, and Xi Jinping than he is/does with Angela Merkel, Justin Trudeau, and Emmanuel Macron. That seems extremely strange and perhaps, not a good thing for U.S. foreign policy.
