Internet Explorer 8 Not Working

    This morning I got up early enough to spend an hour or two editing my hubs and improving the titles. I was progressing well until Internet Explorer8 decided not to work.I was left with an edited capsule that would not close; and I got a message that if I closed the program I would lose the work. I closed it anyhow so that I could ask for help.

    For Mozilla Firefox lovers, I have tried that browser and it has crashed 55 times in one month- the length of time since I downloaded it. Sometimes Firefox comes to haunt me with 'Oops! It cannot find Google or HubPages! I have sent both IE8 and Firefox to the Recycle Bin and attempted to uninstall them. I said attempted because I did uninstall them from the Control Panel program list. However, the fact that they reappear speaks volumes.

    I have designated Yahoo as my main search engine and toolbar.Right now I am seeing Ask and a tiny Google search box which I moved to the top. I have a HP Pavillion Notebook[ bought in 2009] which came with Windows 7. I have scanned for viruses and malware, updated[which is automatic]. I would like to be able to write and edit hubs in peace. Is there anyone who can help me? Even if you have no technical skills, you can share your experiences.

    You can think of downgrading your windows 7 into Windows XP.

      I would be more inclined to agree with Urbane Chaos. Windows XP is no longer supported by Microsoft and Vista sucks, so Windows 7 is your only Microsoft choice right now.

      I've used Opera, Firefox, Chrome, etc. and have had mixed results while Hubbing with all. Never tried Hubbing on Safari, but Chrome has the same back end when it comes to the layout engine, so I'm sure it's not far off the mark of Chrome.

      I would suggest trying another browser.

      And, I would also suggest you look your computer over for viruses, registry errors, etc. (again) and look around your Windows networking stack. Are you wired or wireless?

    IT, I don't think it has to do with the operating system - it's more to do with IE8.  I've had the same problems that aoi's describing everytime I use IE8 with HP.  I tried it on XP and Vista (I haven't had the luxury of upgrading to Win7 yet) and both had the same problems.

    Aoiffe, as mentioned before, firefox does work great for editing hubs, but, if you're having problems with firefox then there are other options out there. 

    I would keep using IE for normal everyday stuff, but try a different browser for editing hubs.

    I've had some luck with Safari, even though it is a little different to use.  You might give that browser a try - it seems to handle the widgets a little better. 

    Also, the Opera browser works just fine as well, and it's a little more slimmed down than any of the others. 

    I would NOT use Google Chrome though, there are too many privacy issues with that.

    There is another choice, the Maxthon browser, but I haven't had much experience with it.  I tried it once and found that it was way too cumbersome to use.

    Either way, for some reason, IE8 just simply doesn't work well with hubpages.  My suggestion is find another browser that works well, and forget about all that microsoft crap.

    I never have a problem using firefox for editing hubs (hopefully won't). I think this is the best browser available now compare to IE and Chrome (I use all of them).

    I will suggest to scan you computer, use malwarebytes, it light, fast, and a free tools you can download it from download.com (C-net). Update the database before scanning.

    Another thing that can freeze up browser are opening too many tabs. Firefox take up so much memory in each tab, you can see total memory taken in windows task manager. 10 tabs will require around 250Mb memory, it will be larger if you install many firefox add-on. My laptop has 4 GB memory, if I found un-use add-on I prefer to uninstall/disable it.

    I would be looking at the registry.

    A dangerous thing to do I know, but there is free registry repair software at snapfiles.com that will allow restore if something goes wrong. There is also some powerful virus search software there.
