Christmas Earlier Every Year
So I got in my car this morning to head to work, had to scrap frost off the windshield and everything. Definitely done with the warm mornings. I crank up the heater, blow on my hands and pull out of the driveway as I switch on the radio. Expecting the normal upbeat tunes of the 80's and 90's to pump out of the speakers, I get instead bells and santa claus tunes.
Is it that time already? I guess one week into November is the official kick off. Haven't ventured into the stores yet but I'm sure they've gotten on board already as well.
The thing I'm wondering is- if they had more songs about Thanksgiving, do you think they would wait longer to bring in the Christmas bit?I doubt that anything will delay the Christmas onslaught. I enjoy the season but the spiritual side so I hate all the commericalism that pervades radio and television so early in the season. Thanksgiving used to be the official Christmas kickoff and I really think all business should get back on that program. It only takes one eager beaver or should I say money monger to get the ball rolling. Come on folks let's enjoy the holidays in order: Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving and only then Christmas.
I think more Thanksgiving songs and general hoopla would delay Christmas festivities at least somewhat. I work in a daycare. Halloween is big for me because of all the Halloween music and activities. November, however, has been anticlimatic. There aren't many Thanksgiving songs that I can sing with the kids. Other than pilgrims and Native Americans, there aren't that many Thanksgiving activites either.
My focus now isn't on Thanksgiving, but on getting ready for Christmas. I have been putting Christmas CD's on my computer and planning my December activities instead of thinking of Thanksgiving.
But on the other hand, if we had three back to back months of intense holidays, I would be even more exhausted than I already am. Maybe November should remain the lull in between Halloween and Christmas.

i think they start these holidays sooner every year to sell more stuff. they started selling Halloween candy at the end of August. they bank on the fact that people will eat it then have to go buy more for trick-or-treaters. it's a plot

I saw the first Christmas decorations in a store before July 4th. Needless to say that this felt completely weird. I do not know why businesses do that. Maybe they think people will buy stuff, misplace or loose or break it and then buy again before Christmas? Or are stores used for storage purposes?
In my opinion, July is too early for Christmas decorations. Selling Christmas stuff after the halloween is a good time for retailers. There are still a lot of consumers who shop early to avoid hassle for the holiday shopping. This is the stores' peak season every year.

I don't think the Earth was turning quite as fast back in the day. Seems now the older I get the faster the day's go by.
This next week is Thanksgiving, then the next will be Christmas.
