   Why powerful nations put their fingers in to the internal affairs of small third world countries?

      Because small nations in third world are dependent on rich and powerful nations,  their utilisation of the aid given to them have to be monitored. No one will give aid without looking into the way they are utilised. 
      
      (One exception:  the US never monitor the aid given by it to Pakistan, because they are nearer to Al Kaida.)

      The main reason probably comes down to money and typically because the corrupt governments of those thrid wold countries ask the USA to get involved. Of course our constitution didn`t intend for our government to be anything but neutral except when we`re threatened, unfortunately our government in it`s unending thirst for power insists on pushing the limits of it`s authority beyound what is authorized in the constitution and congress lacks the will to exercise it`s power to stop it!

         What do you think drives that thirst for power?  It couldn't be big business could it? 
         
         Government is an extention of us.  Left to operate without any guidance from us it turns into a autocracy.  This is what we get when we expect one person to change everything on his own.
         
         Left without any oversight Big Business moves in to fill the void.

         What is pathetic is the apathy the electorate has had in the past.  I can only hope that as with recent elections the people get more involved and active in combating the profit at all cost business that is conducted at the expense of our economy and young peoples lives to fight the wars to further the bottom line of these corporate self seekers.

      Western nations do not have a lock on interference. Nor is it just the big guys. People have been interfering in their neighbors affairs since the invention of the pointy stick.

         But America makes it a dirty business with the aggressive business tactics they employ in the process of getting their will implemented.  Just look at our history and our military strength that very often accompanies it.

   Money, power and influence - these reasons never change, just look back at the history of the whole world.  When things move on, as they always do, when they get a bit of wealth and power those third world countries that you are referring to will be out doing exactly the same thing to poorer countries than them.

   In defense of powerful western nations, it's often because those third world countries have remained third world and not become wealthy themselves due to war, tyrannical rulers and so on, and the meddling is an attempt to help the people who are suffering because of these things.

      In defense of third world nations, it's often because powerful western countries have financially and/or militarily supported tyrannical rulers, crippling wars, and so on in the interest of protecting their own commercial or political interests at the expense of the native people.
      
      Go look up United Fruit, the Shah of Iran, Haiti's "reparations" to France, the Iraq-Iran war, the mujahideen in Soviet Afghanistan, the School of the Americas, Fulgencio Batista, Augusto Pinochet, Ferdinand Marcos, Mobutu Sese Seko, Idi Amin, the Duvaliers, Humberto Branco, Ngo Dinh Diem, Samuel Doe.... This is a very short list that leaves out hundreds of brutal dictators, bloody wars, and other interference supported by the US and European countries.

   Since the time of yore, powerful nations have always bullied the weak ones. It now happens that the West is powerful and they are doing their things. That is all.
   
   Look at local bullies like China. It is never happy about Taiwan being independent. Even tiny Israel is always at it with Palestine.

   All political and economic reasons aside, on a people level - just take a look on religion forums and you will see the same exactly attitude - you are wrong and you have to change your beliefs to match mine. And if I have enough power to do so, I will force you into this. Here is your answer

   I for one am happy that interference has decreased on the whole.  Think of all those countries that stopped having civil wars once the Cold War stopped.  Angola, Mozambique etc.

      You seem to assume the worst of us. I have no problem pulling back and protecting America and leaving them to their own problems but thats not what you want. You and the rest of our enlightened progressives want one world government with the equal division of wealth for all or some kind of communist/socialist utopia. Be honest, do your homework, you think our politicians are bad lets try on Stalin for a while. Just remember you won't be talking or voicing desent unless you want to break rocks in Alaska.

    No...I just know who United Fruit is......who enables Shell Oil....and what AAMCO is doing in the state of Durango in Mexico.....
    
    I know why maquilas exist in Juarez........and why no one pays attention to the ongoing murder of young women there...potentially involving the police.....
    
    It doesn't seem that you do...or else I would figure that you would talk about it....
    
    I know where my strawberries come from, and who is doing the work...and who is being scapegoated while others run away with profits....
    
    Stalin was about as Socialist as Dick Cheney....but people like to throw around the words without understanding their meanings...because they have been conditioned to do so...
    
    Stalin would have been far less if Ford had not build up the Soveit Union's automotive industry...who's trucks kept up the shipments of arms and materials needed to keep the NVA/Vietcong going.....
    
    I don't get the feeling that you know about things like this....so I call you out on it....
    
    You don't know what I want....for you have failed to listen to anything that I have actually said....and I have yet to say anything about my views on "one world government" or "utopia"...so don't put words in my mouth please.....

    I do not mean to offend, although I know I write intensely....I do not want to perpetuate division.....
    
    I am not trying to deceive anyone....or cause harm....I just want people to stop harming one another...especially when there is no real purpose behind it....
    
    Increase the peace within us...and work to better our lots in life...that is my purpose....but to do that we have to put down stereotypes...and stop identifying with those who profit from our infighting....
    
    I hope that we can, us both, but as a larger community as well, work towards this greater good......

    Hiroshima and Nagasaki neuclear bomb explosions were done by US with a view to stop the world war. But millions of Japanese people died. After the September 11 incident in US, Afghanistan was attacked by US. Many terrorists were killed and others were chased out. Thousands of innocent civilians also killed and their properties were destroyed. Iraq was attacked because US thought that Iraq was going to be a threat to US and other nations. The threat was eliminated but innocent people were killed and whole of the country is still in a bloodbath. There is a lot of other similar cases in the history.
    
    Governments of small poor nations also have a legitimate right to eliminate terrorists in their own countries and bring freedom and peace to their own people and protect the country. But what will happen when this is done successfully by the government of a small country? US and western nations ask them and warn them to stop all actions and negotiate with terrorists. When they don't listen and complete the process to eliminate the terrorists from the country, the US and the West try to bring up various actions against the government of that country such as human rights violations, war crimes and etc. etc.
    
    This is actually what I wanted you to talk about in my question. Thanks for all those who expressed their views.

    Wars have been fought mainly for access to markets in the last few hundred years. Capitalism is about selling stuff. We all know that.
    Securing resources is also important.
    
    The communists were bad because they wouldn't buy western goods. An Arab world dominated by nationalists would be just as bad for western business.
    
    It's what you pay your taxes for. Your army needs to make sure all those foreigners have every chance to buy things made in the US and it's affiliates, sorry, allies.
    
    The Opium Wars- when the UK forced China to buy opium, despite the social costs- in the nineteenth century is a great example of securing foreign markets.
