Indexing Issue and Traffic

We uncovered a technical problem, that is affecting traffic to some Hubs, related to what is known as duplicate content on the HubPages platform. Duplicate content is when there are multiple URLs in the search engine’s index that point to the exact same piece of content.

    http://www.google.com/search?q=site:hub … p;filter=0

You can see by this example that there are four separate URLs in the index all pointing to the same piece of content.  To remedy the issue, we have rolled back the change that caused it and have updated our robots.txt file to exclude all but the main URLs from the index.  We expect this to clear up after Google recrawls the site and updates its index.  We think it will take about one to two weeks, based on how long previous updates have taken.

Please let us know if you have any questions and we’ll do our best to answer them in the forum.

    Regards,

    Paul Edmondson

Thanks for the info Paul.  I bet a lot of hubbers will be happy to know this could be why traffic has been funky lately.

We are starting to see signs of the duplicate URLs getting removed on some of the google data centers and the duplicate content issue going away.

It usually takes a few days for it to spread to all the data centers, but this is a good sign.

Ooh! That's very cool, because whatever database my google searches are going through doesn't show it yet.

So when I search, I don't actually see that yet. sad

    I see this:
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en& … gle+Search

So thanks for posting that, it makes me feel better! smile

    smile smile cool neutral big_smile

The committee has voted unanimously in favor of more traffic.

The committee has further voted unanimously in favor of barbequed southwestern chicken and will now adjourn to their lavishly appointed, elegant dining room for lunch.
