Link URL's in text capsules get messed up.

I just discovered a new problem that may have started with the new text capsule. When I copy and paste a perfectly good link into a new location it adds a second http after the one I already have there. This makes the link fail if someone clicks on it.

    Example: "http://hubpages.com" becomes "http://http//hubpages.com"

I discovered this by accident trying to click on a link I included in a Hub. So I investigated and foudn I had a few of them scattered around with these errors. The link capsule seems to be okay. It's just in the text capsule and only if I copy and paste a hyperlinked text string.

I don't know if this will help, but what I do is use a phrase, highlight it then click the link button. A new window will come up and I paste my link there. Your visitor will click on the phrase and it takes them to the URL.

When you want to paste a URL link use the links capsule instead.

Cardisa, that is the way I always did it when adding a link in a text capsule. But the formatting bug of the url happened in both the text capsule and the link capsule whenever I changed something in the capsule.

As of today the problem seems to be fixed. But I found some bad links in other hubs from other hubbers who obviously did not notice the problem when they occurred. I don't think these will be corrected by themselves. Unless HP runs a complete scan of all hubs to find the bad formatted links starting with the double http as in  "http://http//hubpages.com"

Hi, Glenn. The HubPages code that was used to build the site auto-formats http in any section that requires a URL. If you place http before your link it will double it almost every time. The only way to fix this (as I've found out from personal experience) is to just type the link itself without an http. It's a nifty tool for people who forget to type http, but can be a pain for those who are detailed like you if they don't catch it upfront. Luckily I caught this early in my first hub or I'd be sharing this issue with you and many others.  Hope all's fixed now & the word gets out there fast to the other Hubbers.

Guyana, thanks for that info. That indeed may still be the way it works if one types a complete url.  What I was referring to, however, is with existing and previously properly formatted links that suddenly got the additional http added automatically. I discovered this would happen when I edited a capsule that contained previously good links.  So I had to watch the links even though I was not changing them, then go back and fix them with the method you indicated. I tested editing an existing capsule it today and the links remain correct now. So they must have fixed it with the last capsule modification that was done three days ago.
