A poll on hubbers hit by the Penguin

I'm trying to figure something out in particular regarding the latest Penguin update. I know this update was supposed to address spam but it looks quite a few hubbers have been affected. I am wondering if the niche writers here at HP have been affected also. I know I have many different topics I write about and was hit severely - a drop of 75% of my traffic. I also noticed my hubber account with my name is no longer on the first page of Google either.

POLL: Have your hubs been affected by the Penguin update?

    Are you a niche writer?

I write in several niches and no, I haven't been hit this time.  But then, I'm still reeling from last August.  I don't backlink either, other than posting on FB. smile

I am a mixture of niche writing, one off hubs, reviews and recipes (plus a few oddities) - I've seen about a 50% rise in traffic since April 19! I've deleted about 40 'no traffic' hubs as well.

This is a 12 day surge so far - I've seen them when Panda hit - surges and fails - so I'm holding my breath waiting for the next fail!!!

There doesn't really seem any logic to what is getting hit or not - the only thing I can think of is that I don't really go out and do much backlinking - so if the recent update negated multiple back-linking sites, then perhaps I gained because of that?

No, no effects on my account

No, it would be far too boring to restrict myself to a niche!

Dorsi, your profile name is still on page 1 if you google "Dorsi on Hubpages"

I don't understand the importance of that.  How would it not be number one on page 1?  Is there any other search result that even should come up for "Dorsi on Hubpages"?  I'm confused.

When I googled "Dorsi on Hubpages" - wiki came up 1st

"Semispinalis dorsi - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia"

I only did it because Dorsi said her name didn't appear on Google anymore.

No it actually came up on the first page all the time. No matter where I looked for my name, from any computer. I even took screenshots of it and my business cards say "Google Dorsi to find me on the web" because it was right up there with the Dorsi muscle lol. First page. It was very cool. (thanks to my sister for naming me an odd name)
My name has slipped from Googles good graces, for whatever reason.

You used to be able to Google JUST my first name and Dorsi was on page one (with my hubber profile link)

Meant to clarify that. I don't know where my name went now.

Dorsi, that was probably your browser, don't you think? If you search something enough times, your browser will bring it up first.

My data is ambiguous and there are some contradictions between Google Analytics and HP stats.  I was definitely hit by the Panda update on the 19th.  I may or may not have also been hit by the Penguin on the 24th.

(I am guessing/hoping that either the traffic will return within a month or so, or there might be some good info on potential fixes appearing once the algo changes are more clearly understood.  In the meantime, I'm working on other stuff and just gonna pop back here ocassionally).

I was not hit by the latest Panda or Penguin but I did notice my traffic dropped some on March 15 of which it has not returned to the March 14 level. While looking around, I noticed that others also noticed a slight drop on March 15, but Google said there was no update or refresh.  http://www.seroundtable.com/google-upda … 14881.html

My traffic now goes through the normal pattern of slowing down on Thursday and starting to rise again on Sunday.
I do have niches, and my best one, which is also my profession, receives steady traffic. I think it really helps to write on what we know best and have authority of which to write.
But if any article is written well and connects with targeted audience, it certainly can do well.

Yes, I was definitely hit by the Penguin because my traffic dropped by a thousand views on Wed April 25, 2012, stabilized on Thurs, and hit rock bottom last weekend.

Here's my Google Analytics visitors overview May 31/2012 - April 30/2012

No, I am not a niche writer.. I write on several different topics.  I'm getting normal traffic on most of my hubs, but the few that were bringing most traffic got hit pretty badly.

I googled my profile name, and thank goodness, it's still number one on Google page.
