I think we've begun to reach a point where our gaming hardware has surpassed our gaming software. Other than beefing up the systems so they can handle multiple video streams for 3D and multi-tasking, we probably won't see a huge jump anytime soon.

I would most likely not purchase any next gen console which does not allow people to buy used games, attaching the new games forever to your account. I would be more inclined to buy an OUYA :)

A console is but a computer after all :) It's a different market, there are plenty of exclusive titles for consoles, and shelling out $300 for one vs $3k for a high end PC is more appealing to parents. Plus there's a better used game market.
You should never be spending $3k on a PC. I built a high end PC that plays Starcraft 2 on ultra settings for $1k. And the graphics are way better than any system. PC is better than systems. Hands down.
Well yeah, I built my own system as well, but how many parents can do that for their kids? :)
Good point. I guess that is a restriction less computer savvy people would face. There are some companies out there though that sell gaming computers for under a grand.
