What are your biggest aggravation about doctors?
Go ahead. Spill your guts.
That depends on the individual doctor. Some have a very caring, friendly "bedside manner". Others really ought to be kept away from patients!!
Of course, the same can be said for patients - some can be pleasant whilst others can be obnoxious and bring out the worst in doctors! It is a sad sign of the times that we have posters such as this in our hospitals:

I think that (not all), but a lot of doctors - at least around here - think they are God's gift to the world, so they have no problem on making us wait forever, after all we have nothing to do with ourselves and can be extremely arrogant, at the same time they don't pay proper attention to our affliction and dismiss us without even looking at us properly with some prescription in our hand. Probably because they seen whatever it is we have a thousand times, but we haven't and probably are worried... Well, I guess there is nothing to do about that...
My biggest aggravation about docs might be that they often let their egos get in the way of treating you. Yes, they are intelligent, but too often docs think they know what's best for you, when they should LISTEN to you. After all, you know your body and healthcare is best when the doc and his/her patient are PARTNERS.
So, the perfect doctor will exercise his/her expertise; all the while, encouraging your input and taking suggestions from you. Not all docs are open to WORKING with patients, but I'd steer away from docs who aren't.
There are a few doctors who are so 'up themselves' it's a wonder they have time to see or hear anything a patient has to say. Some are so bad that I'm sure they consider themselves another species superior to the human race. Doctors do an essential job, but it is just that 'a job', there are plenty more people out there whose work is just as important.
When you do get the doctors who are human, they are much better doctors than the ones who look down on everyone.
When my Mum was dying, there was one a--- h--- of a doctor who told my sister off for calling him 'Doctor' instead of 'Mr'. I'm not an aggressive person, but I honestly could have knocked his block off when I heard about it!
So far, I agree with you guys. Many are egotistical (I had one doctor tell me how much he makes), and some are full of themselves. It does depend on who you get, but I also think it depends on how you advocate for yourself. I had one doctor tell me to take ginkgo balboa , and I asked him if that was Rocky's brother, told him if he was going to suggest an herb he should at least know how to say it. I also told him "You and doctors like you are why I became an herbalist". I walked out of the office, and never got charged for that visit. Oh, by the way, he meant ginkgo biloba.
My very new doctor is arrogant, rude, has no bedside manner, messed up one of my presc refills, and then dismissed me as a patient without good cause. I have an appointment with a new dr who has good references. I do have a specialist who has excellent qualities. The med association advised me to refer the first dr to the licensure board.
Ok... in all honesty and frankness:
1. I am aggravated when newbie resident doctors would come up to me and ask me whether or not the patient we are (at that moment) treating in the Emergency Room needs to be transferred to an ICU or a Specialized Hospital or if this is the right medication to be given. Being polite and even if I know what to do with the patient, my answer would be: "Doctor, that will be based on your discretion and assessment." But in my head, this is what I was DYING to scream at them: "Are you joking me???? Who's the doctor between the two of us? Shouldn't you be knowing this?!"
2. I am aggravated with doctors who's testosterone levels and green-mindedness are going way beyond ethical standards.
3. I am aggravated at doctors who don't know how to smile, or to talk, or to show a little bit more compassion to their patients. I wouldn't mind if we get screamed at for a mistake but please, be nice to your patients!
4. I am aggravated at doctors who's primary agenda is to get the most collection from their patient's consultation payments.
5. I am aggravated at doctors who do a lousy and lazy job, especially in the O.R. God forbid these practices that lack professionalism and finesse at their O.R. skills.
I am frustrated with doctors who present the above conditions. Bow!
Unfortunately I have had a lot of contact with doctors lately with a lot of my loved ones getting older. But I have to say I have no complaints. They all have had great bedside manners and were very encouraging and informative.
Hmmmmm.....I think I won't. But suffice it to say, most are extremely rude and abusive to nurses.
I always thought that it was very frustrating to have to wait and wait and wait for the docter to come to the examination room. They seem to take forever to come. When they finally do come they spend about 5 minutes with you and then it's over with. I spoke to this one docter years ago and he was very arrogant. I never saw him, only spoke to him on the phone. He was so nasty that I left and went somewhere else.
My biggest aggravation with doctors is when they prescribe the same drug, that didn't work before instead of prescribing the drug that will work. They do this because of the formulary their medical group has developed. They have to order the wrong drug first because its cheaper. So the infection rages and becomes more antibiotic resistant. Its who ever is in control not really the doctor that's the problem. Some doctors will go against the formulary, but not too many..

Would you agree that most doctors are arrogant?I don't know if it's something that only I happen to be unlucky enough to experience, but I find that a lot of the doctors (particularly specialists) -- mostly male -- I've been to are supremely arrogant, rude, and unprofessional. What's your take on...

Would you feel comfortable with a doctor who you knew was a smoker? It wouldn't worry me, but some people I suspect would have less faith in a doctor who they knew had such a dangerous habit/addiction. If you know your doctor already does has it put you off having him as your doctor?

How important is a doctor's 'bedside manner' to you?Would you change your doctor if their 'bedside manners' didn't suit you, even though their reputation is good?

In my 20+ years of experience with psychiatrists, I've had doctors who have been very willing to take the patient's input and some who have been reluctant.Sometimes we become aware of a medication that has worked well for someone we know and we may suggest our doctor try us on it as well,...

Why is it that God gets the credit when it's the Drs/Nurses who've done all the work?People with cancer, in car accidents, in general ill health - the medical professions work their little behinds off saving or healing patients - yet, if the patient happens to be religious and has prayed for a...
