I have been suffering from a virulent form of flu.
It has been so bad it affected my lower back, losing the ability to walk and very painful; I am into my third week. What are the best remedies for the flu virus?
Influenza is no picnic, and many people don't realize just how serious it is. Fluids, bed rest, and ibuprofen for aches, pains, and fever are still the best remedies, but it really comes down to each individual's time table of recovery. Coughs, for instance or chronic fatigue can last for weeks. I am sorry about your back. The flu virus goes after those areas that are normally problematic: If one suffers from sciatica- bingo!! If the problem persists, I'd call your doctor. Hope you feel better soon.
Tamiflu is a prescription anti viral, if you are into your 3rd week, and its affecting your lower back, i think you should consult a physician. It isnt anything to mess with, and anything over the counter probably wouldn't help, most are for with in the first couple of days. The herbal anti virals are Olive leaf, oil of oregano, or garlic. up-to 1500mg a day, most are effective if taken at the first sign. Zinc lozenges will boost the immune system, but as a said, its at the first sign. Watch getting dehydrated, drink plenty of fluids. Broth, water, or if you can't keep anything down, chew on ice chips. I wish you the best.
Unfortunately, Tamiflu is really only effective if taken within the first 2 days from the onset of symptoms.
Yes, true. But again if its effecting the lower back may be a sign of something else. Best to seek the advice of a physician, in such a case as this.
Hi artist101. I absolutely agree w you about calling the doctor.
Definitely, this flu season has been a rough one for everyone. I have my anti virals on hand, just in case.
Sorry to hear, sounds really bad... I can recommend fighting it naturally with power foods. Click here to get a juice recipe: https://www.facebook.com/RawJuicingandS … mp;theater
Some natural remedies to help your body recover:
Astragalus. This is a potent immune boosting herb. It's used in Japan widely for cancer patients on chemo to help their immunity rebound.
Eating alkaline foods to balance the pH of the blood and make it less hospitable for viruses (google a list of these foods)
Garlic and onions are good virus busters.
Grapefruit seed extract is an excellent natural anti-viral.
I actually wrote a hub on preventing the flu and it includes a few options for treatment once you've caught it called "Preventing the Flu the Natural Way" if you're searching for natural remedies. The sad fact is nothing I've tried will completely wipe out your symptoms once they've started, but Thieves' oil and Elderberry syrup are well known for their effectiveness at killing already present flu symptoms. Advil is good for regular aches, but I've found that personally, Acetaminophen works better when I'm achy and feverish.
Feel better soon!
get well soon, take proper rest nothing is better than consulting a good doctor so that your problem doesnt aggravate
Elderberry syrup is effective, also echinacea/goldenseal combo, garlic (fresh is best), oregano oil in capsule form, astragalus, ginger tea drink several cups of this tea a day, you can add lemon and honey to taste. If you have fever, take yarrow/elder flower/peppermint tea (equal parts of each herb).
Eat a light diet, no dairy or meat, warm and hot broths is the best choice of food.
For pain take equal parts of black cohosh and Jamaican dogwood tinctures:
Combine the tinctures and take 3 mL (about 60 drops). Repeat in 15 minutes, then again in 15 minutes the first time you take it. Thereafter take about 60 drops every 2 hours. Do NOT exceed this dosing
Oh and I forgot to mention, elderberry syrup, you should take a tablespoon every two hours. Hope you feel better soon!
