   Does anybody know of any natural cures for an awful cold?
   
   The last few days I have felt a cold coming but I hate taking anything for it unless it has natural ingredients.

   I'm not sure of how effective they are, in terms of real medicinal effect, but the ones I always hear about are...
   
   Orange juice
   Teas
   Vitamin C
   
   ...and a mixture of rum, lemon, salt, and honey.

   There are no cures for a cold. And Vitamin C after the fact doesn't help. It's too late at that point (but still always a good idea).
   
   However, to help dissolve the symptoms a bit, if it's a head cold, make a tea out of Blue Vervain.
   If it's a chest/bronchial cold, make a catnip tea.
   If it's both, you can use both without issue.
   I usually add some mint leaves to the tea as well as a bit of raw ginger.
   To help with a sore throat, the teas will help temporarily, the ginger will help lengthen the relief a bit, but if you can get some actual licorice root (not the candy, but the actual root), it has a numbing effect if you chew on it a bit.

   The suggestions here are good.  I would also add a bit of grapefruit seed extract to help fight the virus and weaken it.  It won't "cure" it, but it can help lessen the duration.  Astragalus is an awesome herbal remedy.  It boosts your immunity by both weakening invader cells and boosting your immune cells. It is also an adaptogenic herb so it helps fight that crushing fatigue that comes with viruses.

   Zinc lozenges will lessen the symptoms if taken within the first 24 hours. Colds are caused from viruses, so an antibiotic is useless. among the natural antivirals are zinc, oil of oregano, grapefruit seed extract, as well as garlic. Garlic is the strongest over the counter anti viral, as well as anti biotic. You can mix it in with chicken broth, (also anti viral as well) If you do not like the taste of garlic, it may be taken in capsule form, as orderless. No one will smell it on your breath, nor will you burp it. To up your immunity, thereby decreasing, the amount of, and duration of illness, vitamin d daily, at 20 IU per pound of body weight.    Boosting your immune system is one of the natural cures for cold that have added benefits. You can take Vitamin C which is readily available in chewable or tablet form. Add Vitamin C supplement to your daily health regime as it will help you fight off common ailments such as the flu and colds. It is also a good idea to drink more orange juice to get Vitamin C.

   The Cold Virus first attaches itself to cells in the Mouth and Throat. By the time you notice the symptoms it's already infiltrated your system. Taking Immune boosters can help to delay and halt  their infiltration. I would suggest that the first time you notice the symptoms you should gargle some warm Salt water that's as warm and as Salty as possible. It goes a long way to kill off most of the Virus that your immune cant handle.
