What activities does the senior citizen in your life participate in?

Hi!  I am a senior citizen, as is my wife.  It's our fifty-fifth wedding anniversary today.  So what activities do we currently participate in? (and there's been one helluva lot in recenty years)

Well, my wife is involved in voluntary work raising money for charity.  She works anything from one to four half-days a week at this.  Also, she organizes at lot of the social events for those who work with her as she's on the local group's committee.

For me, I'm into public speaking, storytelling and teaching my club members and others about this.  I've been a Toastmaster for most of my adult life.  I'm currently in four Toastmaster clubs.  I also do a lot of Creative Writing, having written about ten books and around 400 essays since I 'retired' in 1995.

You could generalize and say that 'retirement' - provided one spends time doing the things one loves to do - is the most productive, rewarding, and joyful period of one's life, the proviso being that one is in good health.

      Tom,
With your attitude you make me think that retirement  will be a good time of life. Congratulations on the fifty-five years of marriage. That's amazing.
      Thank you,
      Lisa

We are now in our senior years and we are still very active. My husband and I are still actively working as a consultants in education projects here in Cambodia and before this in Vietnam. We were in Florida in January and enjoyed it but we'd rather be here still contributing and being engaged.

Good for you Mary. I think it's great that you two are so active. I think it's about finding something that you love to do.
      Thank you,
      Lisa

My father is 75 years old, a senior citizen and when I visited him and my stepmother last year in January 2014, he was actively doing gardening and producing vegetables to sell. Aside from this, he got 3 cows which he looks after, he told me one of them is his favourite and looks after it better than the others. Aside from this, he and my stepmother have chickens, dogs and lots of plants they are growing. My father although he is a senior citizen does not stop at all. He used to be a farmer and a miner. But now that he is retired, he still works hard in the garden. I admire him really, he reminds me of his father, my granddad, he also did not stop working until he died.

      Linda,
It sounds like your dad has a good thing going. I do agree that it is best to stay active in later years. Thank you for the nice comment.
      Lisa
