   Why does society,disapprove of smoking a Ciggerette but find Alcohol acceptable?
   
   I just finished an article about this, I welcome opinions from smokers and nonsmokers.

   People don't get second hand alcohol poisoning is likely the reason .  Those of us with asthma and allergies prefer to not have to breathe other people's bad habits and get sick ourselves. I wish society frowned as much on those who wear strong cologne and perfumes, but sadly we don't lol.
   
   As for alcoholism, most people don't find that acceptable, but a social drink here and there doesn't hurt anyone - except for maybe the drinker over time if they overdo it. I would also add and so long as they don't drive under the influence and put others at risk.

      Yes, I agree for those that are subjected to second hand smoke,but outside.
      People that drink alcohol have a chance of killing someone driving, and impairs their decision making,of what is right and wrong,
      Smoking doesn't affect our minds.in my opini

      Nichol, folks do risk of being arrested for drinking & driving, losing their license and paying expensive legal fees.
      The harmful effects of "second hand smoke" and it's smell turn off lots of people. Smoking in U.S.  kills 443,000 each year!

      I agree completely if someone is Smoking near someone that is wrong but when you are standing in.smoking area and someone has to come over and complain about your choice to smoke this is what I mean,

   None of us here can truly speak for the whole of society, but as a lifelong nonsmoker I personally take issue with both cigarettes and alcohol. They are both proven to be killers to both the user and those around them. My neighbor's cigarette smoke has infiltrated my home and we've exchanged words about it because my health is not for them to destroy.
   
   Once that smoke makes it into my home, they are disturbing my peaceful enjoyment and my health, my very life. It doesn't matter if they are doing it in their home with open windows or standing close to our fence. I've made it clear I will fight to the death over my health and they've stopped. Since last year, I've received some scary health news regarding my heart and I know that my health can be worsened and my life eventually ended because of other people's ignorant selfishness. The heart problem is slowing resolving itself. Nevertheless, I cannot care about what other's think, if they don't care about their own health I'm surely not allowing them to harm mine.
   
   Alcohol is deadly whether to the drinker or those around them in a variety of situations, people who drink and drive or work in various occupations can harm others because of their drinking. Drunken neighbors with power tools can wreck havoc as well and let's not get started on those who enjoy fighting/getting violent after getting some drinks in them. Alcohol can cloud judgement however, harm is and has been brought to innocent people whether or not the drinker felt they could handle their drinking.

      Very good answer,and I am.glad you could see both sides my beliefs if your Ciggerette smoke is getting to someone else then it should be stopped.but otherwise people should let people choose their own bad habits

   It's about length of use. Cigarettes and other forms of tobacco have only really been cultivated for a few hundred years, whereas alcohol has been around since the very dawn of human civilization. Also, cigarettes have always been purely luxury items, but for thousands of years, alcohol was safer to drink than water since alcohol naturally kills bacteria.
   
   Might be the reason why.
