What To Get Mom For Mother's Day?

Each year, millions of us struggle with that age-old question: what should we get Mom or Grandma or Auntie for Mother's Day? Flowers and candy are great, but if you're like me, you've already given them this a million times. Dinner with the family is fun, but you also want them to have a tangible gift to hang onto for years to come.

Some people enjoy making Mother's Day gifts so they can give something very personal, but not everyone has artistic talent -- or the time, for that matter. Another great option is to give your mom a ready-made gift with a personalized touch.

Nowadays, you can personalize almost anything: jewelry, clothes, trinkets, you name it. It usually doesn't cost that much to get it done and it's a way to give a nice gift a little something extra.

Here are a few ideas for personalized mother's day gifts, including engraved jewelry, personalized trinkets and personalized frames.

So this year treat your mom or mother figure in your life and let her know how much you love her.

Personalized Jewelry For Mother's Day

One of the nicest gifts you can give Mom for Mother's Day is a beautiful piece of jewelry. But you don't have to spend a fortune to get a lovely necklace or locket, and don't have to settle for getting her something generic. Instead, add a personal touch to your gift so that your mommy knows that it came from the heart and that some thought was put into it.

One of the easiest ways to personalize a gift is to get something with your mama's birthstone. I love the handprint pendant. It's so cute and is perfect for a new mom or the mother of a new baby. My sister-in-law recently gave birth to my niece and I'm actually thinking of getting this for her for Mother's Day, especially since my sister-in-law's birthday is in May. The birthstone adds just a pop of color and gives the adorable pendant a classy and personal touch.

I'm also a big fan of locket necklaces. All of the ones pictured here are beautiful, especially the vintage-looking ones, but what's really great is that you can place a personal photo in the locket. Some ideas include putting an old picture of your grandmother and grandfather in a locket and giving it to your grandma; putting your baby picture into a locket and giving it to your mom; putting a family picture in a locket and giving it to your mother; the ideas are endless! You could also, of course, give your loved one an empty locket and let her decide which photos to include, but it's so much more personal if you actually take the time to choose photos yourself.

Another great idea for a Mother's Day gift is to give her an engraved piece of jewelry. Many jewelry companies can engrave your mom or nana's name into the pendant, along with a message. It's a simple and thoughtful way to express youself and whenever your mom or aunt or grandmother wears the jewelry, she's sure to think of you.

Engraved Picture Frames

If your family is anything like mine, they love family photos! We have family portraits all over the place. That said, you can almost never go wrong in giving a picture frame as a Mother's Day gift.

However, don't just hand Mom an empty frame that contains a photo of some random model. Personalize it! Get a nice picture of her and your dad or of her when she was younger, or of her with her kids -- just something that will evoke positive memories. She'll really appreciate it.

You can then go a step further and get the frame engraved with a nice message. I love the picture of the baby with his footprints surrounding the frame's edge. That's such a great gift for a new mom on Mother's Day. I also like the frame that has the family members' names running along the edge. Imagine how much your mom or grandmother would like that.

The beauty of photos is that they capture those moments that are special in our lives. These days, most of us just save our pictures online, but take a classic approach and put together a picture and personalized frame that lets Mom know how much her family cares.

More Personalized Mother's Day Gift Ideas

If you're looking for a fun gift for Mom or Grandma this Mother's Day, here are a few ideas for different personalized gifts.

If your mom is an avid cook like mine, she'll appreciate the personalized apron. But make sure that you let her know that you don't EXPECT her to cook for you; that you just know that she enjoys doing it for herself as a hobby. Then take the wheel yourself and cook her a nice dinner.

A classic photo mug always makes a great gift, as well. You can guarantee that it will get a lot of use and Mom will enjoy drinking her coffee as she sees a photo of her loved ones. This particular mug is really cool because it changes color as you drink!

I always love the personalized gourmet candy. Who doesn't like receiving candy for a holiday? And this is a way to make her yummy treat even more special.

Getting your mother a mongrammed spa bag is another great idea. If you really want to go all out, you can give her a bag that's full of items, as well as a pass to a day spa! That's the perfect way to treat Mom to a relaxing special day.

There are no shortage of great gifts for your mother or grandmother, but a personalized gift is always a great way to go for Mother's Day.
