My Personal Write-a-thon

Dear Readers,

A Big Thank You To You All.

Your proud author had just recorded over 100 pageviews per day at hubpages yesterday. This had happened to me at the Authspot writing site once before. I don't count that one as I have no idea how it happened. The current record is a booster to my rejuvenated writing hobby. For those of you who easily log in over 500 pageviews a day, you might ask what the big fuss is about. To me, it is very encouraging to know that there are in fact people out there who enjoy or learn something from my articles. Better still, they could simply be people who like me enough to tolerate my bad writing. A big thank you to you all. Before I recorded this figure of pageview yesterday, I told my wife that Kontera, the text-link advertiser, was challenging me to reach 50,000 pageviews within 60 days. She asked me what if I could make it.

"Twenty-five dollars." I said. She laughed and offered me two thousand dollars for not attempting it. I agreed with her that the $25 was definitely not enough to make up for the effort. Nonetheless, I am ready for the challenge. If I am to reach 50,000 pageviews in 60 days, I must have learned an awful lot about writing and the internet, e.g.,

How to write consistently?

How to increase your pageviews?

How to increase your web traffic?

How to write articles that interest your readers?

How to write good hubs?

How to promote your hubs?

How to make it easy for search engines to find your articles (search engine optimization or SEO)?

How to communicate with other web citizens in this age of web 2.0?

How to draw on other web citizens' resouces to achieve your goals?

These skills were what I wanted to learn in the first place when I started writing again three months ago. Just like the way my first marathon turned me into a life-long runner, this attempt might be what it takes to turn me into a life-long writer and blogger.

So this is my pledge, or in a way, my personal write-a-thon:

I shall learn what it takes and take the necessary steps to reach my goal of reaching 50,000 pageviews at hubpages, by 1 October 2008.

I shall do this with your help. I shall keep you posted with what and how I am doing. Please drop by to encourage and support me the way you would with marathoners. (This, of course, is part of the trick, to catch the soapie junkies among you who might find this pledge a kind of new mini-series, or reality TV, for the season, and turn up everyday)

Anyhow, the 60 day race has begun.

On day 1, my accumulative pageview is 1447 and this current hub is my number 49.

Wish me luck.

Yours sincerely,

Benson

Yeah, good luck man. I wish I could get that kind of traffic to read my stuff, but I think I'd probably have to do a lot more than just write hubs, which is pretty much about as much effort as I'm willing to put in. I just can't bring myself to go spam my hub addresses all over the Internet. If you discover a neat trick, make a program that automatically does all the stuff so I can just paste my article addresses in it and it does the rest. You'd be rich!

It sounds like you would have rather persued writing than medicine. Yet medicine will serve you even more if our economy completely crashes. Still, wriing fulfills the soul as medicine may not.

Good luck on your continued journey.

Silly question but how do you set up your text links within your paragraphs? Do you have some tips for me?

I have been working for a while to create a solid system to follow. I can't wait to read the rest of your expereince and share anything I find as well.

Dear Mika,

thanks for commenting. My attempt has actually finished and unfortunately failed, as far as numbers are considered. It did give me plenty to learn and celebrate about though. You can follow the rest of the series of the articles if you like.

cheers.

this is a good learning hub, now that you've had some time to think more what would you change?

Rebecca E,

thanks for your comment. I would have aimed at a certain number of hubs rather than pageviews, as pageviews depend a lot on what you're writing about. I probably won't enjoy reaching 50000 views by writing about celebrity gossips or fashion.
