   I often find it easier to express my emotions in poetry.  Also, I think poetry can be more interesting as it is really an artform and can be interpreted differently to different people, depending on what their life experience is.  It comes from the heart and the soul

   poetry to me is freedom, it allow me to "free up myself) boldly speaking... and with my writing of poetry, i love the no rule approach.....

   Its easier and sometimes prettier, their are no rules to poetry unless you are writing a certain type of poetry.  Also one does not have to look up any information or put citations, etc.
   
   Poetry is a free form of writing it allows you to express your creative side without restrictions.

   I echo most of what everyone has said here.  There is a freedom found in poetry that is hard for me to find in other forms.  Sometimes poetry can be a series of unconnected thoughts (or maybe feelings) which is often the way people think thus expressing them more accurately, maybe?

    Any form of writing gives a creative pleasure. To me writing poetry is far more interesting than reading a poetry. Reading of an elaborate write-up (story, novel and...) gives me a proper understanding of the theme while reading poetry sometimes confuses me due to similies, metaphors and other ornamentations. When it comes to my personal choice of taking up writing poem or... then poetry scores over the rest.
    
    I prefer to write poems as its compact and expressive in very little words and few lines. I like to write in ordinary language (day to day). It helps me to keep the actual flavour and a conversational touch and tone. My poems usually lacks the ornamentation but no regrets. I prefer it that way as it brings out my innermost feeling without any colourful mask. It unwinds me naturally.
    
    Writing stories need a bit of dramatisation but poems of ten lines or less can be as expressive as a poem of fifty lines or more. It is always to the point which never allows the reader to deviate from his concentration.

    I seem to hear a rhythm which moves me to write something that has been within me since I was a child, and could only come out honestly in Poetry form.

    It may seem strange to you , but i've always had a click for it , when i was little till now its always in my head words form to phrases to ideas to writting poems and stories. it like a person having ocd .. which i dont . i have it there in my head creeping up .. and of course half the time i dont have a darn pen handy or paper. yes i know always have them with you.. but this si how i respond to your question.

    I write simply because i like to be creative and apart from photography is one of the best ways i know to express myself.

    Weather drawing or writing sometimes i don’t know what it is I’m doing. It starts with a line and it starts to flow and i see where the river takes me
    Most of the time it reveals some thing about myself in my subconscious

    I write poetry over other forms of writing because when I first sat down to write - it came out in poetry. That is how my soul speaks and lets me know what if feels and needs. It is the way I can get all of that out into the world. I've tried writing narrative and it doesn't do the same for me.

    Well, I write in a variety of forms, but the freedom of poetry is definitely attractive.  Also, the need to deliver a short, decisive literary blow is challenging.

    I find freedom in the form of economy.  The fewer words that I can use to express exactly the emotion I am describing, the better for me.  I also play drum set, so when I think of a phrase it usually has a beat that goes with it.  I like odd times, multiple times, and ostinatos, so my writing goes along with that.  I play around with changing the downbeats sometimes to give the feel of shifting into reverse while moving forward at the same time like watching a wagon wheel spinning.  That's another thing I like to do is to think of something visual and try to write it.  That comes as different things, sometimes it is used as a literary device, other times it's rhythmic.  My favorite thought is how to write a breeze, that's been banging around in my head for years.
