Meme,
There are a million and one ways to make money as a writer. For one your actually @ a place where writing can pay off for you. Hubpages, with that said hubpages allows for different types of Revenue from your hubs which you can use to make money writing online. From Google Adsense To Amazon's Associate's program.
Another way of making money besides Hubpages is "Like Minded" sites that have the same business model as Hubpages which allow for your Google Adsense Ad's to run on your Articles or other Publisher programs you may be a part of.
Third way would be writing hubs about Clickbank products that you would want to sell, or "Clickbank" products that have something to do with what your talking about.
My favorite way is using Blogger + Adsense + Amazon Associates and then using Adwords to drive traffic to my blogs. That nets me readers, Click thru's, and good Sales. So writing Blogs about certain Niches and loading them up with Content is key. If your not looking to use Adwords to drive traffic to your site. A lot of content and Good SEO will eventually prevail, landing you a lot of Search Engine Traffic and eventually good Adsense Earnings.
...Though you could always write a book, then somehow get lucky with getting it published. I have 10 years in the book business world i've dealt with many "Independent Authors" trying to get there books published and pushed. Not a great scene @ times but some do prevail. If your writing is good enough to be a book, and submit it to Random House, Penguin, Harlequin, Etc and one of them bites and makes an offer to you, you could make money on that.
Lastly which i'll probably end up making a hub about this is independently write both on your own and with people. Publish your writing yourself there is a lot of places online that will do it for a good price Google or Bing it. Then go around selling your Writing one book or article @ a time.
As always content is key both online and in real life. If your writing is really good, then you should have no problem getting it out there in todays world and making an impact.
I wish you the best of luck and hope some of my answer helps you.
-Dd
The most consistant way is to work fulltime elsewhere while you write and until you find out your level of talent.
Hi Meme,
You could create your own blog, or membership site
Or write reviews on Internet products ( clickbank)
Or become a writer and charge for writing articles, ebooks etc.

I think the main thing is to persevere. You might get lucky and start earning within days of starting to apply for jobs, if you decide to take this route.
Alternatively you can write hubs for this site or work for other revenue sharing sites like Squidoo. This takes longer to see a return but then you do get money from your efforts every month without doing any more work after the initial task.
I personally do a combination of both, fitting in writing hubs etc around doing client work that pays more up front and allows me to spend some time hubbing as well. Good luck!

How long does it take to make money with hubpages? After 160 views on 10 hubs they tell me I have 0 clicks. Is something wrong?

Since Google AdSense hasn't approved me, my hubs aren't earning anything from anywhere. I've been told that ads show up on my page but that they belong to hubpages and I won't get paid for those. I guess hubpages is earning money off my hubs but I am not. Is this the case? I have other hubs I would...

Hi,I've signed up and am ready to start making hubs in my specialised subject, but I was wondering what the earning potential of hubbig (if that's a word) actually is. I realise it all depends on how attractive your pages are and how good they are etc, but what are people actually earning? I am not...
