This isn't just between Marvel and DC. There have been a lot of other companies who made great (or at least decent) characters. My favorite is a three-way tie between J'onn J'onzz the Martian Manhunter, the Hulk, and Abraham Sapien from Hellboy.

When I was a kid it was either Spiderman, Captain America or Daredevil. Nowadays I lean towards The Phantom...the ghost who walks...the man who cannot die.

Superman and Wonder Woman. They have all the super powers needed to solve difficult situations :-)

That's a very good point and both have very strong morals, especially Wonder Woman, that allow them to do what they do assuming a decent writer is behind the story.

Morpheus, from Neil Gaiman's Sandman series.  Here he is with his sister Death.

Deadpool, Cyclops, Ghost Rider, Moon Knight, Darkhawk. Great ones everyone else. Honestly though, if anyone picks their favorite character solely based on their power level...I think you're missing the point.

My favorite is Garfield. I used to watch the cartoon shows as a child!

He was always a fun character. I'm not as thrilled with the live action movies since I always saw him as a cartoon but that might just be me.

Me too. I only like the original cartoons and comics. The live action movies and computer animation is not the same for me. It is not authentic.

Batman. I have written numerous hubs on him and looked at so much stuff over the years. I just see a philosophical underlying to the entire series.

I love Melaka Fray (from the graphic novel Fray).

Melaka is great!  And I enjoyed the Buffy Season 8 series from which she sprang.

She showed up in Buffy 8, but she's been around for a lot longer! Whedon's Fray started in 2001. If you haven't read Fray yet...you really should!
