I use 2, but one must account for the fact that I have 2 medical reasons to sleep in a chair rather than a bed so not sure it's a fair comparison.

Four pillows, two king size and two standard size--two for me, two for my husband.

I have at least eight. I can NEVER get enough pillows!
I surround my whole body in pillows when I sleep. I wrap around them, have them tight to my back, and prop my legs and feet up on them. I also have pillows out to the sides of me. This way I can lay on either side, and I'm able to extend my arm out, and prop it up on a pillow. If I don't prop my extended arm up, I will wake up with a sore elbow, the same way it feels when you sleep with your arm hanging off of the side of the bed.
Pillows rock! But they do cause girlfriends to get jealous, that I am not cuddling them instead, and that the pillows create a gap between me and them.
So in some cases, my best friends, "pillows", end up "c@#$ blocking" me! haha.

We've got 4 pillows on our bed; 2 body pillows and 2 normal pillows.  When we go to sleep we normally just use one of the big body pillows ... although I sometimes have one of the smaller ones under my head as well.

Our bed is also our couch (studio living) and we of course have more "pillows" for decoration when its in couch mode smile

I have 12 pillows on my bed when it is made. I know it sounds like a lot, but it looks really good! Most of them are for decoration only. I sleep with only two; a regular pillow and a body pillow. My husband uses three...he sleeps on two regular pillows and has a body pillow as well.

I have four pillows on my bed at all times, and I sleep alone. I stack up three on one side and use one at a time to sleep on. I rotate pillows because I have a bad neck. One pillow may work for a while, but then I have to switch because I start to get a neck ache.
