How can I make money from My Word Press poetry-blog?
I know poetry is more art than business, and that as an e-commerce concept I may be out on the fringes of e-commerce, but it is something I want to do - need to do.
First of all. Poetry is great. But even very famous poets make very little money from it. Pretty much any poet you ever heard of either had a day job or was independently wealthy. So try and set your expectations accordingly.
But moving on to monetising your blog. The main way I know of monetising it is advertising (you might also sell books/ebooks of your poetry). For advertising there are a few factors that affect how much you make:
1. How many people come to your site
2. Whether they click on your ads
3. How much ads in your area pay.
You can mostly control the first two. You need to attract lots of visitors and make sure they are interested in poetry so that the ads will be relevant. Perhaps you could also post articles about writing poetry as well as your poems to attract more visitors. Also think about getting blog posts from guest writers or guest writing for other blogs so more people hear of you and your work.
Also sign up as an amazon affiliate (or another bookseller) and post reviews of published books. If people click through and buy you will get a cut.
Good luck!
I'm sorry to be blunt, but too many people in this community are "Yes" people, and will give you false hope because they want to be nice.
I am going to be nice, by trying to stop you from wasting your time and money.
You can't.
When I go to Google, I'm looking for something - and that something is almost never going to involve keywords from one of your poems. If by some stroke of luck, my keywords match up with your poem, I still won't visit your site - because I am looking for information...not poetry.
Write your poetry, by all means if it is your outlet, then you need to do it. But the time and effort you spend trying to keep your blog up to date...you would make far more money mowing lawns with that time than you will updating that blog.
I am not trying to shoot you down, I'm being honest. Monetizing a blog is HARD. Making money off of poetry is even MORE difficult. Combining the two is like trying to get a degree in medical sciences then using that degree to try and get a job at NASA as an astrophysicist.

I am not too keen on Wordpress. It looks pretty and clen but the advertising options are limited. I use blogger because it's easier to use and gives me freedom with Adsense, but I really hate the limited templates. I am thinking of going domain and website for my recipes. What are your thoughts?...
