Will The Repeal Of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" Law Eventually Corrode Military Discipline And Readiness?
Will the repeal adversely affect future recruiting goals? Will fewer current servicemen and women re-enlist? Will the all-volunteer concept go by the wayside and the draft have to be re-introduced? Consequently, is the repeal dangerous for national security?
I've talked to several people I know in the military and they've all said it will adversely effect the military across the board from recruiting to retention of experienced soldiers.
I have nothing against gays but this was a bad idea.
I actually served in the military.
Will The Repeal Of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" Law Eventually Corrode Military Discipline And Readiness? No--Don't ask don't tell has only been around since the '90s. The military did fine before that.
Will the repeal adversely affect future recruiting goals? No; there are a suprisingly high number of homosexuals already serving in the military
Will fewer current servicemen and women re-enlist? No; this new generation is far more progressive than previous generations.
Will the all-volunteer concept go by the wayside and the draft have to be re-introduced? Let's hope so
Consequently, is the repeal dangerous for national security? No; but if you're concerned about national security, I can direct you to the nearest enlistment office
If someone's love of their country is diminished because some guy likes other guys, then they didn't belong in the military in the first place.
There are still plenty of regulations in the various military codes of conduct that say you can't fall in wearing a big pink rainbow flag cape.
Bring back the draft though. That's the fastest way to get us out of a pair of morally corrupt wars.
Thanks Longhunter. Some people don't see the dangers until it blows up in their face. I wouldn't be surprise if recruiters esp. the USMC hesitate to sign up such people. I believe the Marines can do without them gays. If anyone says they have worked with gays in the military before, I wonder if they are from a branch other than the Corps.
I fail to see how it would since basically you are allowing gays to serve in active duty. How is that from letting regular soldiers who are attacted to women or women ot men serve? Sexuality will always be a factor in behavior whether you are straight or gay.
As to national security I fail to see how having more troops is a threat to national security on a pure numbers basis (there are other ways that could be considered a threat but not the time nor place to get into that).
This is really a distraction from the evils of Haliburton and how it is a threat to national security.
The West Wing touched on the subject years ago, and in my opinion it was hands down the best argument I've ever heard on gays in the military. Here's the URL for the clip on YouTube:

I was sitting in the Kaiser pharmacy waiting to fill some scrips today. CNN was one the tube. All of a sudden this ad came on. Came home and researched the organization behind the ad.So my question is this: Do you imagine that any of these 60 Plus Association seniors are "incensed" enough...

Will the recent repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" herald a new era of gay rights victories?Do you think that the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" will give the gay rights movement the additional momentum it needs to begin making serious headway in its other major battles...

In a recent CBS interview, Senator John McCain (R-Arizona) said"Now is not the time to repeal Don't Ask Don't Tell." Here is a link and an excerpt from the article. Following that is a link and excerpt showing rather overwhelming evidence that DADT is antiquated.Once again, Mr. McCain...
