In the unlikely event of the imminent destruction of Israel it is claimed they would unleash the 'Sampson Option' and launch their nuclear arsenal. Currently they have 200 atomic bombs at Dimona.

Israeli professor and military historian Professor Martin Van Crevel was apparently quoted as saying....

"We possess several hundred atomic warheads and rockets and can launch them at targets in all directions, perhaps even at Rome. Most European capitals are targets for our air force"

In 1973 during the 'Yom Kippur War' when Israel was almost overwhelmed by Arab forces, Golda Meir authorised a nuclear alert, ordering 13 atomic bombs be prepared for missiles and aircraft.

Does the 'Sampson Option' actually exist? If so, is it a genuine Israeli threat? Or is it just brinkmanship, blackmail or sabre-rattling?

Quote: General Moshe Dayan: 'Israel must be like a mad dog, too dangerous to bother.'

The only truism I know of is that it is surrounded by only Arab countries.
Witnessing the injustice that they are experiencing, invasions, bombings, assassinations perpetrated either by the US (it is regrettable), either by Israel, had I been Netanyahu, I would be cautious as for my intentions. The Hezbollah leader in Lebanon who made an alliance with Christians in the name of their love for Lebanon, announced that he wouldn't let Israel attack Iran or his country without reprisals on the Israeli territory. An eye for an eye is a good policy and real solidarity within Arab countries to cool off the Israeli excitement.

I wouldn't say an eye for an eye is a good policy. The rule of international law should surely be enforced, or why have the law?

Yes Israel is surrounded by Arab countries but that was the choice of the Zionists. They picked the Middle-East for their homeland.

But still begs the important question, rather than a terrorist bombing of Iran would Israel seriously consider destroying European cities if it was facing an existential threat.

That's true zionists picked Palestine stating unconsciouly that it wasn't theirs originally.
I do believe that they would do it considering their foreign policy. Why would they differentiate Europe from Iran? Aren't they the "chosen ones" (it is a joke!)? Therefore they have precedence on anybody on the planet logically.

Why would Israel threaten Europe? They majority of people are interested in joining the EU and I really doubt they would back their government on a mission to take them out, as much as this is supposed to be the Jewish homeland many still are attached tho their European roots. And as much as people keep thinking Iran and Israel will start lobbing nukes at each other to start down this road, neither side is really that stupid. Lets just hope we are not since we are the pawn they are moving around the board.

Israel his nuclear-tipped missiles that can hit Moscow. This is why no country in Europe or Asia is truely threatening it. The talk that is heard is just cheap political tricks, like McCain singing, "Bomb, bomb, bomb Iran."

But to answer your question, there are military strategies to take on any contengency. Recently, Obama authorized extra large fuel tanks for the F15 bombers and deep penetrating bombs to be sent to Israel, making them ready for an attack on the Iranian nuclear refineries. This is to assure that Israel does not use it's nukes.

That's a horrifying thought that Obama seriously thinks that Israel would drop an atom bomb. The first since 1945 and only the 3rd time in history.

An attack on the Iranian facilities would be an act of terrorism. But I suppose the White House will hide behind UN approval.
