Do people sometimes try to fit themselves into a stereotype?
I sometimes find myself trying to identify with specific stereotypes, even though I don't think I am one. Does anyone else do this? Why do you?
i would say they do, some people want to fit into at least one group
When I was younger, I use to think that I had it tough. My parents did not let me go out when I wanted to. I was a drama queen. I use to dress in all black clothing. Black make-up, black bedroom. I notice a lot of teenagers that think they have problems wear all black. Does that make me a sterotype for thinking that? Maybe.
It's easier for the majority of the people in the world to be part of a group instead of being alone.
everyone must have had it bad once or more times in their lives which has led to certain behaviors that would normally be viewed as abnormal......that really doesn't make anyone a stereotype.....i think the diffence is when a person lets the bad stuffs determine hoe they live their lives.....or knowing desides to act like a sterotype cause it's cool
I would totally join a stereotype if I could find the right one. It seems to not have ever worked out for me. I do think all stereotypes come from some (or maybe even a lot!) of truth, but life is way too short and dumb to let stereotypes be your guide. I figure if you're trying to seize someone up based on your own bias, you should be an equal-opportunity bigot. Meaning this, if we pre-judge (which we all do), based on the tunnel vision of our limited experience, individuals should still have the opportunity to prove that wrong, without it being but so weird.
I have, and still so sometimes.
It's all about wanting to fit in, picking what the most popular stereotype is at the moment and seeing if you can adjust to it.
Sometimes people will fit themselves in to a stereotype whether knowingly or unknowingly. Some people do this out of a yearning to belong to a group and others do it out of sheer lack of confidence or self-esteem. It's easier to be someone you are told to be. If I ever fit a stereotype, it's probably that subconscious need to feel included.
I don't think people really try to fit themselves to a certain stereotype. At least not most people.
I think how you act and talk has to do with the people and the kind of environment you fit yourself to. If you notice people that have been friends for a long time, you would most likely see that they tend to act, dress and talk the same. Kind of like accents. Have you ever known someone to move to a different part of the United States, like from the North and headed to the South? Within a couple months they begin to get that Southern twang in their speech.
I don't think it's stereotypical.
Well sure. Both consciously and subconsciously. It's part of human nature to want to belong to a group, seeing as how we're such social animals.

From going through religious and political forums, I noticed some hubbers feel that democrats are pro atheists while republicans are pro religion. Although, I've met plenty of atheists that were republicans, and I've known quite a few religious democrats during my time. Therefore, I'm a...

How do you feel about the stereotyping of beliefs? For example whenever an atheist like me does something wrong it somehow manages to reflect on atheists as a whole, not just me as a person. Whenever a catholic does something wrong it's a similar event (like the priest scandals). Whenever it's a...

Why is there so much focus on stereotypes of every group of people except for Christians? You don't have to read these forums, or any forums very long to see that this is true. This is just another example of the bible fulfilling itself.

What do you think is the most unfair stereotype?
