Just engage yourself in such things or work which you love and time will cure the rest.

If we truly knew the answer to this question, we'd all live very different lives. I think memories of hurt and pain go some way to shaping who we are, so we should learn from them rather than try to forget. Of course it's possible to obsess over unhappy memories and that's certainly not a good thing. I'd suggest that you try to concentrate on the positive and be pro active about making the present and future as rich and meaningful as possible. That's one way to diminish the impact of negative memories from the past.

Well, if you put it in the "Gender and Relatioship" category, I am assuming you mean a romantic partner who hurt you.  At this stage I have two advice.

    1.  Always remeber, when you lost the girl you love and you are sadden by it, ask yourself this question, would you feel hurt if you never know her, in other word, pretend you never met her, you can't lost what you never have or you never know.

    2.  This one apply for guys only.  Go get laid, find a girl and have sex with her, if you can't get laid via ethical method, go buy yourself a prostitute for one night or go to a strip club, if you dare, the girl that hurt you would mean so much lesser to you afterwards

    The best
    way is to
    keep yourself busy,
read a book, play games, go on vacation and do those things you love most.

The goal should not be to forget but instead to learn the lessons it taught you. Hopefully with each good or bad experience you gain some wisdom about yourself. Life is what you make it. Each of us is responsible for our own happiness.
Your goal should be to learn to make better choices for yourself with regard to whom you let into your life. The first step is to forgive yourself for making a bad choice. The next step is not to dwell on the past. (Your future lies ahead of you, not behind you.) Lastly you need to find a goal or purpose that drives you to invest your energy into it to see it realized. Everyone gets hurt. Life goes on and so must you.
