    My ex and I have joint custody split 50/50 and have been divorced for 10 years. I've got questions

    about school. We only live a couple of miles apart but we're in 2 different school districts. The kids go to where their dad is districted due to mutual agreement. But whenever my kids talk about wanting to live with me (I won't get into reasons now), he threatens them by telling them they will have to go where I am districted. He knows the kids want to stay where they are as far as school. How is this determined? Couldn't they still go to school based on his address as long as I get them to/from school?

    You would need to talk to the local school district superintendent to find out what the rules are. I would suggest that you start by inquiring without describing the reasons for your question. You could phrase it so that it might be about a local move. The questions would be if the kids could stay to the end of the school year, and if they could continue after that.

    You might also ask a local divorce lawyer if it is possible to keep the kids legal residence with their father while they are staying with you.

      Thanks so much for your response - I will definitely look further into this. I do find it quite ridiculous that my attorney never mentioned this when we drew up the PP. He was worthless!!!

    I had a friend whose parents moved out of her school district while growing up. Her mom just drove her to her old school bus stop and didn't mention a thing to the school about moving. It worked out. Then again, it was the 90s.
