How do you know any of this is actually real?
"What is real? How do you define real? If you're talking about what you can feel, what you can smell, what you can taste and see, then real is simply electrical signals interpreted by your brain."- Morpheus , The Matrix.
I also read a study that said there is a twenty percent chance we are already in the matrix.
I know my life is real. The passage of time, getting older, the past year's experience of being laid off, struggling trying to maintain. If this was not real, I could dream and my wishes would come true. If this was not real, I would not be struggling. If this was not real, I would design a whole different set where I would be a star running my own show the way I wanted it to go. Only reality can be this disheartening and difficult.
We don't.
That's the fun of it.
Can you see the matrix?
Logic... Amusing! Logic discusses causes and effects, and fails in every attempt to find a cause without cause.
Things follow things, (logic) so things ultimately cannot have ORIGINATED - if anything is to be, it must be some effect of some cause, no? No.
Logic fails when it comes to co-creation. Things are defined by what they are not - things have properties distinct from other properties they do not have. Ultimately, Existence is such in contrast to Nonexistence - and Nonexistence is only such in contrast to Existence = Creation.
This is all as real as anything else... The fact that none of it - that which is and that which is not - is REAL (talking more of objective, subject-independent existence) is what allows for a subject of experience in the first place. Or thereabouts...
Closing the door on questioning reality never came out of understanding - it's laziness in pursuing a satisfactory answer. Those who attain to understanding are those for whom the door remains open.
Doesn't matter if it is real or not--it is what it is--and we have to deal with what we have in front of us, real or not.
We don't know for sure if any of this is real.
It's all based on a predominate belief that the air we breathe is real, the water we drink is real, the pain (or joy) we feel is real and so on.
We could wake up tomorrow in completely different circumstances or a completely different world.
The only thing that is truly 'real' will always be what you yourself believe is real. Hopefully, you can take satisfaction in the fact that you control your reality based on what you decide to believe in.
Whatever signals may be at work:
When I pinch myself it hurts
When another pinches me, it angers me
When my grandchild smiles, so do I,
When my child hurts, I cringe inside....
When my hubby is happy,
I am delighted by images of a little boy.....
If this is not "real", then it is at least, " good enough".
I think , therefore I am.
why would my own consciousness be the only one in existence.
Not to say that nothing is secretly fake.
I see and feel, therefore I am...a very philosophical ideology.
Reality is what we make of it - if we see and feel as well as smell and taste what we eat and drink, then that situation is real enough. If we cannot see what others see, then reality can be blurred.
Perhaps we are living in The Matrix where reality is in our minds but hunger and sleep are real enough and that reality is enough for me to say, 'What I'm experiencing is real. If I don't live in the present and just see reality as a thing of the mind, I'll starve'.
We know it is real because we hurt, we bleed, we love, we learn and we are alive. We are breathing.
Our bodies, this earth...everything is complex. It makes sense.
Love this question...and the matrix, and inception. Inception was crazy cause when I was younger my best friend and I thought about this question. Our answers were: What if this was someone elses dream? and when we sleep our dream is someone else's "reality". lol that was what...10 years ago...when we were 11 or 12. lmao someone must have heard us...ORRRR was it the director's dream we were in and thats why he made the matrix or inception...OHHHH FREAKY! lmao but to answer your question...i dont know if this is REAL or not..id like to think it is...cause if not this is a big waste of time. HA!

Do you think that belief in something requires thinking it is real?If not, please explain how one would go about believing in something one does not think to be real if no clear physical evidence for it exists.

Specifically, the existence of Yahweh as he is typically conceived: the omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent, omnibenevolent Creator of the universe?Note: When I say "empirically," I am asking whether you believe that his existence can be proved _without_ resorting to faith.

Science and religion has led to mass social order and material advancements. Arguably, these were necessary developments in our human evolution. However, in either case, they have set rules to the understanding of our existence based on human decisions that have dictated these two...

What is reality? That is, what makes something real? For example: Is sound real to a deaf man? Are colors real to a blind man? Is the imaginary friend of a child any less real than God to a Catholic?

Does atheism means I don't believe the existence of God or I hate God for who He is?
