Does divine justice demand the infliction of eternal pain and torture from which mercy recoils?
After all, dosn't cruely and injustice go hand in hand.
Certainly not. Only humans with a weak sense of the divine believe the gods are as petty or vindictive as mortals can be.
Divine Justice is another form of God's compassion. The mother slaps the child so as not to allow him/her to touch the hot rods. Still, God does not do this, as His compassion and also His patience is eternal, and He is prepared to wait. He has asked us to love but He is not like a schoolmaster ready to punish us, as His time is not like ours and He can wait. Ultimately, we will recognise or mistakes and turn to Him. Divine justice is the little nudge we get from Him from time to time, but only out of love.
