Jose's Accident!
Jose was in a terrible bicycle accident on January 15, 2010! It was horrible. He hit the guy who went down in front of him. There was a pot hole involved.
Jose broke 4 bones in his face. He broke his nose, is forehead, his eye socket, and the bone beside the eye-socket. He had two fractures of the pelvis. He fractured his femur. He broke a slew of ribs (5 or 6 ribs?). Jose had a collapsed lung. Jose had brain swelling and brain bleed. I'm sure there were a half dozen or more things that were giving trouble but were "overshadowed"!
So- Jose would run off this insurmountable list of broken parts and maladies from this accident. Amnesia! The inability to breathe. Tubes were running all over him.
Jose would recite the entire repertoire of injuries.
Then Jose would say, "You know- I was lucky!"
Jose is back!
Mr. Tenacious!
The story of Jose reminded me of the story of "The Dog Named Lucky".

Lost dog, three legs, missing ear, broken tail, bling in the right eye, recently castrated, answers to the name ''Lucky''.
Let's smoke it!
Off the bike for 3 months! Healing!
So Jose has been off his bike for 3 months. He wants to ride. I don't call Cy because I'll have to nurse Jose along. Jose won't be able to ride well at all. 3 months is no time to heal. Then the guy is off the bike. Jose has lost muscle. He's lost tone. Jose has lost strength. He's lost his wind. His recovery time must be absurd. He can't climb. He was on a cane the last time I saw him. Before that it was a wheel-chair. Before that it was a hospital bed.
Imagine my surprise when we were .2 mile from the house, a mere 2 short blocks, and we turned on this hill side street. There's construction. Workers are directing traffic. The hill is steep!
Jose says. "Come on, let's smoke it!"
Then Jose "smoked the hill"!

Several of the pictures were without the top of Jose's head. I wanted to keep a good pace and thought I might be holding him back!

Jose and I would ride about 35 miles today.
Tomorrow we hope to do the club ride of about 45 or more.
