    Do you have a Blog?

If you have a blog, please tell me why and which site you use for writing a blog.

I do have a blog called Recycled Moms Raising Grandchildren. There is a lot of professional advice out there but little from actual grandparents who are doing this. That is why I started the blog.

I have two blogs - one for my knitting projects (http://fiberforthought.blogspot.com/) and one for decorating and house/yard projects (http://with2hands4you.blogspot.com/).

I use these blogs to post photos and write about things that aren't really of interest on Hubpages, but also to lead viewers to my knitting patterns and craft tutorials here.  My blogs don't get a lot of hits, bit it's nice to have another place to share my experiences and ideas.

I tried clicking on that first link and got the images but it said something like 'Sorry, the page/site is not available'. Next I dropped the final 'slash' and got the full site.

Yes. But I've only posted one or two writings and get irritated every time I think about it. Why tell people my thoughts? We cannot read minds and it might be for a reason. Just writing about educational interests is good enough to keep me busy and focused.

    1. mary615 profile image82
mary615posted 10 years agoin reply to this

I can't help but wonder why your two writings irritate you?  I think I'd like to blog just to get things "off my chest".  Topics that would not be good to write about on HP.

Why can't you just use a journal instead of posting your thoughts for the world to view? You will most likely get in trouble later.

Yes, I have. But I'm not working on them, after joining HubPages. I think you can get more revenue posting your articles here than in your own blog because AdSense will give you their lowest-paying ads, if your blog is new or does not have a high traffic, even if it is old.

The only reason I am working on my websites is because I have spent a lot of time and energy building them during the last 5 years before I joined HubPages, just less than 3 months ago.

For those who have not started, my advice is to focus their energies on HubPages or a similar site. In any case, you still own the copyright to your hubs, so why worry? If one day, you should decide to leave HubPages, you can transfer all your hubs to your blog. Yes, it's a lot of work but you can transfer, say, 10 a day. I believe no one ever write 10 hubs a day on a consistent basis. But transferring is mere brainless work that doesn't require any mental effort. If you have 100 articles in your blog, your blog would be considered something reasonably substantial.

Bottom-line is to focus on one thing at a time. If you can't see results when you put in all your effort, what more if you merely put in half?

I see a need (I think) for a blog for things like recipes.  My recipe Hubs don't do very well, and I have so many good ones to share.

Yes. I started it before I was drawn to Hub Pages, since then I have not used it much. It is basically about gardens and birds. I was never sure if anyone was viewing it because nobody left comments and the only traffic that I saw was 'vampirestats.com' and the like. So you could say that I have practically given up on it. I occasionally write a post for it. It is on Google, if you care to look at it the URL is:

    Hi, Mary,

    Yes, I do have a blog: http://storiesfromthislife.com/

I started it recently after I lost my online teaching position. As you can probably tell from the url, it is reflections and stories on life.

I decided on Wordpress and really enjoy it. I have used Blogger in the past but wanted something a bit more professional.

Yes, I do. I use blogger.
As a self-published author, it's kind of obligatory.  I post short stories there as well as updates on writing projects and links to my articles.  Since having a blog is free, it's not a bad idea to have one even if just to promote your HubPages articles with it.

I have a blog a number of reasons...
    • So that I can post links to the articles my friends and I publish on HubPages and elsewhere
    • So that I can post my poems, a type of writing which Apprenticeship Alum are not permitted to publish in their main HubPages account
    • So that I can publish an article I was forced to delete in order to remain an Apprentice and stay in the program

I registered a domain name with Network Solutions, and I have a paid blog hosting account with WordPress.net—not a free account with WordPress.com. As a professional writer, it is necessary for me to have my own domain name associated with my blog, something I can do with a paid domain name and paid blog hosting.

I have a blog which is not as niche driven as I would like but is mainly about my adventures in family history research.  I use Blogger because I find it very easy to set up but I have created blogs on Wordpress for other people.

That was the one that HP unpublished because they don't like "purely personal" hub and then the next few days they changed their minds only they would not permit it to be featured and no ads.  Im tired of the BS so Im moving most all my hubs there.

I have a couple of blogs that are on things that I am working on and I want to start a couple more.
One blog supports my online business and is at www.salsamoda.com.au/blog
and the other one is about my new sugar-free lifestyle at
    www.living-sugarfree.com

I am writing on Hubpages to explore other niche areas and interests to log about and to post things that interest me but wouldn't fill a whole blog.

Oh I use Wordpress for all my blogs and love it. It's so easy to use and has lots of add ons.

I use to have a blog but deleted it. It was attached to my websites for my profession. However, I deleted it over a year ago. Even though my Alexa ratings were very good (in the upper 50-100K for the U.S.), I felt that personal blogs were dying. As the years have gone by, it seems that people would rather come to article sites like HP. Therefore, I started writing for HP and attached my hubs to my websites. It's paying off much better than my personal blogs.

I have a blog on blogger. I also had a blog on WordPress, however, I have closed my account. I chose blogger instead of WordPress because I could use my AdSense and other Google service with blogger.  Monetizing was not possible with free WordPress service when I was a member.
I created a blog to republish my newspaper articles. Articles published on different newspaper could now be found in a single platform. However, I later deleted my posts and began publishing stories and poems.
I have stopped updating my blog because I could not garner readership.

I have several blogs on Tumblr -- I have lots of varied interests so I created a blog for each. I just started a few weeks ago, but its a lot of fun, and a very big challenge to keep them updated (and hopefully interesting). As I get more established with the blogs, I will probably being using them in synch with Hubpages -- using the blog for short blurbs and then expanding some of the most popular posts into full articles on HP.
