    Please oh please How can I stop Vista from updating. I use my laptop for performing music with...

    VSTI. Works good but Vista just shut me down to finish updating - right in the middle of a tune - it just stopped the tune and restarted. It didn't ask me. I was in a corporate meeting the other day and a guy was using meeting live or something like that. This was an international meeting with Bangalore India and his laptop did the same thing. That must have cost a few 10s of thousands of dollars.

    What the hell is this? and how do we send a signal to shut down Bill Gates in the middle of his life. Do I sound angry? I guess I need a mac

    I don't have Vista, but in XP, there is a setting to disable automatic updates and notifications.

    In vista, click on start menu ---> type "windows update" to search --> click on windows update --> click on "change settings" on the left panel. Now its up to you whether to "never check for updates" or "check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them".
    The second option will help you to update your computer at your will..so i will recommened you to go for second option so as to keep your comp up to date.
