What plug-in do you use on your own site(s) to filter spam comments?

I have a few of my own websites and I get a lot of spam comments. I end up getting overwhelmed and they pile up. I have the Akismet (default) plug-in for filtering spam comments on my wordpress sites, but when I went to upgrade it recently it said I had to pay; that's how I understood it, tell me if I'm wrong. It was confusing. It doesn't seem to keep the spam away, anyway; I have a couple thousands awaiting moderation on one site right now. Anyway, what do you folks use to filter spam on your own sites?

I guess I use my Avast! antivirus and Windows Defender.

Actually after I posted this I ended up finding a good plug-in called Anti-Spam Bee. It works like a charm.

I use "Spam Free Wordpress" plugin, it filters most of spam comments.

I will have to keep that in mind if Antispam Bee fails me at some point.

Sounds like you've got your own site, I was wondering if you could give me some input on something I'm considering. I was thinking of putting a forum on my site and maybe using Buddy Press or bbPress plug-ins to do it. I don't know if it's a hassle or at all worth it to start a forum on a site and was also wondering if Buddy Press or bbPress is good. If you have time or inclination and know about this, I'd appreciate your knowledge and experience.

I didn't install a forum on my site before, but I know that BuddyPress is used to build a social network site. bbPress and phpBB are the most popular free discussion forums scripts.

Thanks, firas1. I might give one of them a try, not sure yet.
