Bahamas: Ideal Family Vacation Destination

Updated on October 19, 2010

If you are planning a family vacation, you know how many options are out there. It can be overwhelming to decide where to go and what to do. Whatever your family’s tastes are, consider a family vacation to the Atlantic Bahamas! This can be an ideal vacation destination for you and your family.

Bahamas: Close and Fun!

The Atlantic Bahamas feature 700 small islands dotted throughout over 100,000 square miles of ocean. Additionally, this area is home to 2,400 coral cays and beautiful, crystal clear water. Nearly all the islands in the Bahamas are surrounded by coral reefs and sand shoals, offering you and your family a nearly unlimited number of places to explore.

One of the great things about the Bahamas that make them a great vacation destination is their proximity to the United States. The Bahamas are located just 50 miles off the Florida coast, making them a tropical paradise in your backyard! The Bahamas are easy to get to and navigate as well.

Bahamas Offer Lots of Attractions for Families

Also, the Bahamas offer plenty of variety to suit your family’s interests and tastes. For example, the island of Nassau offers an urban flair that includes fine dining and shopping, while the Out Islands resemble tropical wilderness where you will encounter fewer people and more undisturbed natural scenery. The two primary islands in the Bahamas are Grand Bahama and New Providence Island. Grand Bahama offers arts and cultural markets, gardens, museums, parks, sanctuaries, and settlements while New Providence Island attractions include dolphin and sea lion encounters, a zoo, power boating, and sailing. Smaller islands such as Exumas Abacos Andros, the Berry Islands, Cat Island, Bimini, Mayaguana, and San Salvador, also offer some great entertainment.

The Bahamas make a great family vacation destination not only because of the many things to do in the Bahamas, but also because there are lots of family friendly hotels and resorts. Many of the hotels offer kids clubs and adventure tours to keep kids entertained and give adults some free time as well. Water parks, museums, kid friendly dining, and all the nature and beaches in the Bahamas are sure to provide your family with plenty of things to do and see.

Also, the Bahamas offer lodging, dining, and entertainment options to fit many different budgets, making your trip flexible and affordable. If you want an all-inclusive vacation package, many resorts such as Sandals and Club Med offer many vacation options for one flat price.
