Always check with your airlines about baggage allowance as they do change. If you have to sit on your suitcase to close it then you're probably in excess. Allow a couple of pounds when you do weigh them as not all scales are accurate. You can use space bags where you can vacuum the air out of the bag which makes everything inside the bag flatten leaving enough space for few more things on your travel list.
