Tiger Love: A Tribute to the Dog that Rescued Me..

There's a Tiger in my bed,

With teeth and claws intact.

Snuggled oh-so-close,

She's spooning me, in fact!

Thirteen years she's had my back,

Thirteen years she's had my heart,

I owe her more than words can say,

When she's gone - I'll fall apart!

Don't let her name mislead you,

A bengal she is not.

Her name speaks of survival,

Her nursing mother had been shot!

Tiger Gets The Lounger..

The hue and cry came loud and clear,

Thirteen pups found freezing cold.

Huddled round their mother dead,

Shivering uncontrolled!

Their lives still in the balance,

A shelter with little space!

These pups need a home TODAY,

Or death is what they'll face!

It's a Tiger's Life

My son and I speed out the door,

Righteous anger in our hearts.

Cruelty towards innocent babes,

Seems to be spiraling off the charts!

We finally spied our Tiger,

Looked deep in soulful eyes.

Not the prettiest of the bunch,

But gentle, sweet, and wise!

Now thirteen years and counting,

Please don't say I saved her life.

Truth is - can't live without her,

Were she a man - I'd be a proud wife!

Hopefully Not The End...

Good for you to rescue a pet in need. All of my cats have been strays or from shelters. And they have all been wonderful. My inbred cat is sitting next to me while I write this. Cleaning himself becuase I was pettting him. He hates to be dirty. If he was a child he would be autistic. I mean it. He is a total mush too.

Leslie, what a beautiful tribute to your Tiger. And what a face she has. She found you because you needed each other. Dogs have a way of doing that. And then, they show us what love is all about. It doesn't judge, it doesn't ask for anything more than the basics. It gives, and gives, and then gives some more. Yes, she has your back and you've got hers. A perfect match made in the stars. Voted up, awesome, beautiful. I loved it.

A beautiful tribute! If only their lifespan was a long as ours, so we would know we would have them by our side as we grow old together. But I hope when people rescue a dog they also consider the old ones. They may not be with us as long, but a gentle older dog living out the rest of his life with someone who cares, is a wonderful reward for the worlds most faithful creatures and a blessing for those lucky enough to share that time.

@BAWilliams: Rescuing is the best! The only problem is that they don't live long enough!

I just saw the most amazing thing - a man taking his NINETEEN year old shepherd mix into the water every day to relieve his arthritis. the dog just...laid in his arms...head on shoulder...eyes shut!

People were so moved they sent money for medication, and he got so much money he started a foundation for other old dogs in pain...sigh..

Voted up, awesome and beautiful. Okay...you speared me right through the heart. I'm a sucker when it comes to animals and the unconditional love of dogs. I knew there were more reasons why I like you and this piece only cemented those feelings. Whether you live in a mansion, a trailer or under a bridge, if you are fortunate to have a dog you will also be lucky enough to know true devotion and love that will last a lifetime. When a dog looks at you it isn't just your exterior they see...no...they look right into your soul and that my friend speaks volumes.

      Tiger, Tiger burning bright...

Oh Leslie, If this is an indication of what kinda lady you are, I have made a new best friend.

Tiger needs to be loved and cuddled every day that you are blessed

@MickiS: OOOOOOOoooo, Micki! I read your comment and i almost started to cry! I cannot imagine reading this poem AFTER my baby is gone!

I would probably be sobbing - and i bet you were close..

      Dogs just...DO..that to us, eh?

(i love how you say you rescued her once, but..)

This is a fantastic tribute. I lost my Kishapups at the end of July (6 weeks after she appeared on the HubPages blog: http://blog.hubpages.com/2012/06/micki-seibel/). I rescued her once when she was 5 month old, but she had my back for 11 years--almost to the day. I miss her much, so your poem touched me.

Beautiful! I am a huge dog lover and this touched my very soul. I look forward to having dogs again. It is amazing how attached we become and it is even more amazing how they make us the person we want to become. They uplift us in every manner and remind us of love and feeling cherished.

The tough part of loving our little pets is that they have short lives. What a wonderful pet you have. I have cats and one of them is like a dog. He follows me around and sits in my lap. These little guys give us so much peace and pleasure. Lovely tribute

@Tobusiness: Oh, this dog has my heart alright! If a person can hurt animals - they are capable of anything!

      Thanks for taking the time!

Oh my, sooo cute, those dark soulful eyes....and the dog is pretty special also. :)) animals have a way of reaching right into our hearts. I could never understand how some people can hurt and abuse them, but I guess there is evil as well as good in the world.

A wonderful tribute to a beautiful friend.

      Voting up and Beautiful.
