   Does your cat seem to disappear when there are a lot of people at your home?
   
   At Christmas, I noticed our cat just disappeared the whole time all of our family were at our home.  Then after they all left, about 20 minutes later, he came out from hiding!  We called his name and searched and searched and could not find him.  Does your cat do that when there are a lot of people at your house?

   Not my kittens. They're less than a year (1 year at the end of March). I think they like all the attention- if they're in the mood.
   
   I think if they were adult cats they would do this though.

      Our cat loves attention too, but here lately, he hides out when a lot of people come over to our home.  He is not a year old, so still a kitten.  Maybe an overload of people like at Christmas did it, as one can understand.  LOL  Thank you!

   The cats I've had have always joined in with the group, but my daughter's cat (who I took care of while my daughter was at school) is a cat who really thrives on routine (they're like people - some need routine more than others do).  She disappears when there's a group (or even a couple) of visitors at my daughter's house.  She's a cat who tends to seem a little more skittish than a lot of other cats do - and that's probably why, like two-year-old children, she thrives on routine.

      Hi Lisa HW, yes, maybe that is it as he is use to just my husband and I. However,  he is not one to be skittish. Maybe it is all the extra noise he is not used to hearing?

   Oh boy! Our cat just disappears whenever anyone comes over. Doesn't need to be a ton of people, could be only just one. She's just not familiar with any strangers, and just disappears.

   Yes, we have a couple that do this.  One female is very loving with us, but terrified of strangers and I'm not sure why.  I guess some cats are just shy like some of us people.

      Hi ChristinS, Thank you for answering.  Yes, I guess they are shy like some of us.  In my case, he knows my grands will want to "play" with him, and so he may not be up to all of that fun.  LOL

   H Faith,
   We have four cats and they disappear wheneer they hear a strange car pull up. They may come out briefly at dinner time but quickly disappear again after they have eaten. As you say they miraculously reappear after the visitors have been gone about 20 minutes.

      Hi Jodah, well, I am glad to know our cat is not the only cat to do so.  Wow, so all of your four disappear.  That is so funny, but actually pretty smart to take cover when strangers arrive!  Thank you for sharing and answering the question.

   The cat I have now disappears when even one person comes in. I think it's because he's used to it being only me and has never met the other people. I've only had him for a few months and it might change as he meets new people. With the other two cats I had, the one would hide the entire time other people were in the house while his "brother" would come out to investigate and follow them wherever they go.

   Yes my cat disappears when other people stop to visit. She certainly doesn't like kids. But she has gotten that she will stroll through where we are at once in a while. But I do have to warn people to look under a certain chair covering before sitting on that chair, because she may be hiding under the cover.

      Hello L.M. Hosler, thank you for answering.  Yes, they can hideout in the most unsuspecting places for sure!  One time we looked and looked and found our cat sleeping behind a photo on the piano!  LOL

   My cat likes to be around some people, but not others.  She has definite preferences, so when people she likes are around she will mix in and socialize.  But when people she doesn't like are around she hides.  When my children were small, they acted the same way.   It is certainly interesting.

    My Arabian friend used to have a lion chained to his backyard post in Tunisia, where I spent half a summer two years ago before the migrant crisis took over. The lion used to run when he smelled or heard people in the house, wrapping the chain around the giant oak tree.
