Is it true that a cat can lessen your infertility for a woman?
I read this in one article and could not believe it.Could anyone explain to me about this?
If the cat is carrying a disease called Toxoplasmosis (Toxoplasma) then it can cause problems with your pregnancy, but you are unlikely to contract it unless you handle cat feces, therefore if you don't change the cat litter tray, ( get someone else to do it, or at least wear gloves when you do) you are unlikely to pick up the disease. Most cats won't have the disease anyway, but if you are concerned a simple blood test performed on your cat can tell you if he/she is a carrier.
I have worked in vets surgeries and never heard that a cat can cause a problem to your actual 'fertility', only to your pregnancy if they are carriers of Toxoplasmosis.
If you work with cats or have a lot of contact with various cats just remember to wash your hands frequently and scrub under your nails etc, as you can't blood test every cat you encounter for obvious reasons.
