What are the advantages of using tractors to plow small fields over horses? Besides the obvious that using tractors is faster. If you own working horses, shouldn't they be put to work to keep them happy and healthy?
Plus, many farmers are being put out of business by the cost of fuel, which has gone up so much in recent years, that for some, their income doesn't cover it.
You would think that not just the cost of fuel but the cost of buying and any repairs needed through out the years would add up above the costs to buy and feed the horse you would need to plow your small field.
I understand horses can rack up some pretty hefty medical bills if injured, but if you take care of horse wouldn't those be slim to none?
