    Male photographers...

I have recently noticed that there are a lot of male photographers. Why do you think that is? are females not "artsy" enough to do it too?

There have always been a lot of male photographers.  There are also a lot of female photographers.
Cameras and photography, however, were originally invented by men, in an era when women were kept supressed and expected to do nothing but stay home, produce babies, raise them, and do the cooking and cleaning.
But not "artsy" enough? Please!  A very chauvinistic statement, indeed!

I didn't really mean that they are more artsy because I know that women are wink and it just seems with women in nearly every other profession, I was surprised by how few female photographers I have seen on sites like 500px.

Ok--thanks for the clarification, and I retract the last sentence of my answer.  ;-)

By no means. I have seen female photographers who are more adept at the art than most males. Just do your best and keep following your dream.

No doubt, there are lot of male photographers. But I have seen many female photographers also, who have proved themselves much better in this field. We can take examples of Annie Leibovitz, Sally Mann & Jill Greenberg etc.
