I thought I hated poetry, but realized I just hate bad poetry

I am especially embarrassed about my own, but also reading most poetry, especially rhyming varieties makes me cringe.

I do like writing poetry, just like I like to paint but suck dramatically at it.

I think it is like music too, there is so much bad, it is hard to sort through to find a few gems here and there.

Looking at bad poetry as if writing, "bad," was simply another form of poetry makes the bad poetry seem good. However, yes, sometimes an idea for poetry doesn't translate well to the poetry itself, producing something that will make everyone cringe. It is best not to think about what is good and bad, though, because I often find that those who do tend not to write as much, nor as well as others.

I've been sitting here for idk how many days trying to come up with a poem around the topic of, "yesterday," but have failed to land on anything I feel would hit that standard for, "good."

Sometimes you have to shake the cobwebs off of the creative gears with a sloppy, cringe-worthy poem.

I'm certain something will pop into your head that is worthy of a poem for " yesterday".

That's funny, I was just asked the other day how to define majestic in a literal sense and I couldn't do it.

Instead I said, "Imagine a black horse, and it is running through a dew-laden field at sunrise. The sky is clear, and the air is getting crisper with every breath you take. Just as the steed passes over the horizon, you smell the breakfast your lover made. Now that, my friend, is majestic."

Then I googled the definition, lol! At least I indirectly understood the literal definition. I'm going to need to keep thinking, doodling, and deleting until I land on something.

I cringe when I read badly written prose and there are a lot more people writing and even publishing that, than poetry. So it works both ways.
