Lace Crafts

Crafting with Lace

Lace crafts can be delicate and beautiful. Embellishing items with lace, using lace as a stencil, or creating lace by knitting or crocheting are all fun lace crafts you can try.

The lace craft projects provided here offer ideas for using lace in crafting. But some of the best items are created when you use your imagination and create something brand new that no one's thought of yet.

This photo shows some of my lace waiting for me to make lace crafts.

I used the edge of an old pillowcase (the pillowcase has threadbare but the lace at the edge was great) and sewed it to some old curtain fabric. The lace made a nice pocket to store other vintage items, like a peg clothespin and smelling salts.

Use Lace Doilies for Cake Decoration

Use a paper doily as a stencil

to decorate a cake.

Place the doily in the center of the cake.

Then lightly sprinkle powdered sugar

on top of the doily then remove the doily

to leave a lace design on the cake.

Display Lace in Fun Ways

Show off your lace instead of hiding it away.

Display your lace with these fun lace ladies. Wrap lace around their legs to form a skirt. Then stand them up in a box or jar to create a whimsical way to show off your special lace.

The Graphics Fairy provided the lovely ladies clip art (vintage scrap girls), and Creative Carmelina came up with this wonderful use for them. So clever!

If you want to make some lace ladies for yourself, go to The Graphics Fairy Web site (link above) and see all of the vintage scrap girls clip art (some are shown in the "You might also like" area under the blog entry.

See another option for displaying lace at The Graphic Fairy. Karen offers some lovely cards to hold lace.

Lace Plates

by Mark Montano

Make lace plates with the great tutorial by Mark Montano. Mark blogs and writes books (the Big Ass Book of Crafts series!).

Make these pretty plates to hang on your wall, give as gifts, or to even serve food on (personally, I wouldn't "eat" from them to preserve them but serving fruit or other foods then rinsing them would be fine and dandy since they have a clear coat sealer).

For a list of items you'll need to make your own lace plates, check the list below.

Easy Lace Jars

by House of Humble

Head over to House of Humble to see how easy these lace-accented jars are to make.

Seriously. They are easy and lovely and I can think of lots of good uses for them:

~ Store craft supplies

~ Fill with buttons

~ Add marbles

~ Candle holders (as shown at House of Humble)

~ Vase for flowers (as shown here from House of Humble)

It's true. Grandma's lace is hidden away. Some of it is over 110 years old. I like some of the ideas you show, especially the print of lace curves, but really all of them. When I was much younger I thought I'd like to learn to make lace, but always gave it up to the larger needlework skills. It's exquisite and I appreciate it. It's funny I often paint a bit of lace in my paintings.

I love lace. Mom and I used to craft with it, mostly Christmas decorations. I have a pattern for a lace knit shawl I want to try someday when I have more time. Thanks for the other lovely ideas.

I used to make quilted throw pillows with bits of lace in some of the pieces, but not for a very long time. Also sewed with lace occasionally, as trim or accent on clothing. I especially like the idea of crafting a wall hanging of lace and other fabrics. The AllPosters pic is totally inspirational! And decorating little jars with a band of lace prior to filling them with gifty goodies is a good idea too.

I love lace. I love the idea of the lace sewn onto the ring. I have some beautiful doilies left to me by my great grandmother. I have them tucked away as I don't want them damaged. This would be a great way to put them on display. Thanks.

Yes, I have crafted with lace a lot, I have a huge drawer full of vintage lace and linens, oh and buttons because I was really into it a year ago. I still love it all but have moved on to other things. I just love using up an old doily that no one wants anymore and creating something with it. Super lens, Blessed *
