Indian business tycoon Ratan Tata had announced  to launch the cheapest car in the world. He started setting up a factory in Singur, West Bengal, India but he has to remove his factory due to political agitation.

Now he has signed a pact with Gujrat Government and the car is likely to come with in 2 months. People in India are anxiously waiting for this 1 Lakh ruppes ($ 2000 aprox) small car.

Do not be crazy.  The car will come in the market 2 months later. There is a long Q for that. You have to wait until Tata starts exporting from India.

I was under the impression that Tata would NOT be exporting the car out of the India and Pakistan region. The whole point of the car is that Tata make a cheap car for their people (kind of like the VW Beetle around the second world war time) Your not going to make much money on each car, so why not sell it to help your image around the world?

Plus, have you any idea how unsafe its likely to be?? I've seen the car, and I'd feel safer in an original mini cooper!! (and I've written 2 of them off, not pleasant to have a crash in!)

  6. thranax profile image75
    thranaxposted 14 years ago

The safeness depends on how strong the frame bar is. I still think it would stand no change getting hit by a pick up truck or an SUV.

I think the car wouldn't stand a chance against a pick up or truck Thranax, but if everyone is driving one (which could happen because of how cheap they are) then you have nothing to worry about!

@ JYOTI - I think they've done a great job with this car and I don't think they will have any problems with it, its made by a well trained work force and has been designed well.

I know for a fact, for being an American, that at least here we will not give up our huge cars without a long drawn out process. The day when there are nothing but those tiny cars will be generations after all real full bodied cars are forgotten!

I can just see it now...A hillbilly with his pick up truck and a government agent going to confiscate it.

HB: "What ya doing wif my TRUCK!"

GA:" I'm taking it to be scraped, you can get a government coupon to get a new Nano."

HB: "You ain't taken my truck *Gun Drawn*"

      GA: "Christ..I need Backup"

And thus leads to the new Star Wars Film:

Star Wars: Final Conflict- Hillbillies and Rednecks vs The Government Federation.

This new epic story takes place on planet Earth. There aren't any Jedi Here, its just man vs machine. Only the Rednecks have some advanced help, the Wookies are on there side!

This movie is not yet rated. Coming to theaters near you in 2015.

I hope its not as soon as 2015!! I personally think big SUV's and pick-up's will be around as long as their are people who think that the bigger the car, the bigger there schlong! I prefer something a little smaller but with some serious power to piss the 'big boys' off! (hence the writing 2 Mini Cooper's off!!)

Heh, something to piss the big boys off? Thats just like what I drive. I have a Nissan Maxima from 1994. The thing use to be a luxury car and is very nice. The thing is- it goes fast but the controls are pro. If it was a drag strip, then it might lose, but on streets and turns? Hehe, zoom zoom? Besides, don't really need to hit 135 MPH a lot neutral

I also find it funny when the big boys act superior and don't let you go? Well, I don't let myself get bullied on the road smile

 Nothing wrong with a Maximum mate, good strong Jap engines, I knwo a guy who drifts one, looks awesome going sideways!!

Personally, I go for the out and out surprise, I drive a 1968 VW beetle, with a 350Bhp Subaru Impreza engine in the back big_smilebig_smilebig_smile Not much can beat it to 60 or 100 mph, but after that it kind of runs out of legs.

One thing i will say about the Tata Nano, imagine it as a sleeper car with a Turbo Suzuki Hayabusa engine in it big_smilebig_smilebig_smilebig_smilebig_smile see ya later Ferrari!!

    So its kinda like Herbie?

    http://members.aol.com/foxcraft/Herbie10Mar07LF5.JPG

Personally, I can't fit in a Beetle, I will never drive a Beetle unless I was a member of the Geek Squad or something.

 That''s not a beetle Thranax!! It has its engine in the front! But no, its not much like Herbie (except its the same car) mine is a rat look, so its all rusty and tatty looking! Unless you get underneath or inside which is when you see just how perfectly restored it is! Sadly the Boyd Coddington (RIP man) rims and big brakes sometimes give it away!!

What people need to remember about the original VW Beetle, is that it was designed by the original owner of Porsche, and there some very nice cars!

Production of Nano was delayed because of some political agitations in its Singur factory. Now they have shifted their factory in Gujrat. We hope Tata will come out with their car soon.

It will be great in the present days of economic slow down.

The Tata Nano will not be selling for 2k outside India, it will be more like 6k.
Tata Motors is also the partner in the compressed air driven car that was much touted to be on the market last year and the year before that still has not turned up in the market place. I will believe the Tata is finished when I see it on the road!
