What is the downside of going into business with a girlfriend? We want to start a shop together.
I have a massage/physical therapy business. She owns a rock store, with an extra building. We want to start a metaphysical/reiki shop. There is nothing within 100 miles like what we want to build. We have been friends for about a year.
The only downside is that business partnership is like marriage. The idea is really nice, but the execution takes a lot of work. If you start a business with someone, you're tied to them and it's not for commitment phobes. That being said, just like divorce, there are options for dissolving a business partnership. It's just expensive and time-consuming.
I think it's beautiful and wish you both success with it, but ensure you have both sorted things out legally business-wise, in black and white - (not just verbally).
Business is Business.
It is a great thing you two wish to start a business together. Who better to share successes and tribulations with than your partner in life? But you have to be careful not to allow it into every aspect of your lives together.
Create boundaries...perhaps if you two are eating dinner, work is off limits. Or if you two go for hikes together, then you cannot bring up work. You have to find a way to keep work flowing but without interrupting quality time.

addicted2jg, the format of this is tough to read!As far as the trip, you did the right thing. A relationship can't succeed if one or the other is unwilling to allow for a little space.
