There are various types of method available and its depends upon your requirements .
If you are looking for readership traffic then social bookmarking sites blog commenting are best ways .
If you are looking to build reputation (PR) then backlinks from EDU, GOV domains are highly recommended
If just for sake of traffic then ptc , adwords and millions of other programs are there
One that works...Joking, Kinda. I have had great success with Hubpages and Youtube. Depending on the product or services you are offering. I have also had some luck with Craigslist.org. But this method is getting harder. The best method is I find is getting to know your customers firsts. Then I match my offer with a customer. Don't always be looking for the sale. Connect with people first, build a relationship, and once you have built trust with them. They will buy or try your offer. Just my 2 cents.
